John 1:1-3, 14

In the beginning was the Word
The Word was with God. The Word was God
He was in the beginning with God

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us
as the begotten from the Father.

Genesis 1 - 2: God created humankind

The earth was without form (no physical laws to make it work). The original text implied a total destruction. By whom or by what is anyone's guess. The only beings around at that time were Day Star, the son of Dawn, and his gang, and the angels for God (Isaiah 14:12). If you allowed my imagination to wonder, I see a "Star War" between them. Who knows, maybe this destroyed the pre-historic creatures.(The History of the Earth)

So God set about restoring the earth in Genesis.

  • Day 1: The first step was to put earth back in the solar system. Not too close and not too far, just right.
  • Day 2: The atmosphere was restored. No wonder science looked at the atmosphere of the other planets to determine whether there is life.
  • Day 3: God restored the land and set up the rain cycle to bring about vegetation. So now planet explorers are looking for water in other planets.
  • Day 4: There was the nitty-gritty of the moon and all the others to give us the right condition. Enjoy the seasons and the tides folks.
  • Day 5: The next event was to put life in the sea and the air. Science said life started first in the sea, that was what the Bible says.
  • Day 6: The land animals. Then finally God made man in "their" own image.
  • Day 7: God blessed his creation and declared this day holy.

To make sure that humankind gets the message, God repeated Himself in chapter 2. Actually three times if you included chapter 5. He then went into detail on how He made man (2:7). In Genesis God "restored" the earth; let there be.

The only creation mentioned was that of human beings. God moulded man from earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

This actually set me wondering. Science is so advanced. We have now managed to unravel the genetic code. So if we have a completely perfect body, let us say a body who died from crib death, can we give the baby life? The baby is as complete as can be. So what gives life? Is there a God? I suppose old fashion science still need God to breath out life.

Before I proceed further, you may like to know how the author knew about all this since there was no one around to give the account of God's activities. You are right, but you have never anticipated that God would prepare Moses for this task. The Moses who studied in the best university of his days; the Royal College of Pharaoh. One day God sat down and told him all about it (Exo 31: 17 & 18). Christendom believed that the first five books of the Bible were recorded by this scholar.

Why did God made humankind?

Well it must be God's parental instinct. He wanted the joy of a family with the Garden of Eden as their play pan and the animals their toys.

A complex God

Before I start I must make it clear I have no suitable word to use, so I used complex. Various terms have been used. Two of them stood out; Godhead and persons. The lack of understanding can be likened to our view of a computer. They worked on "artificial intelligence". I can see this in me when I think about God. My intelligence is also artificial, programmed by my human paradigm.

God is one, a single entity, but there is God as Jesus Christ and there is God as the Holy Spirit. In verse 1:26, God said, "let us make man in our image".

In verse 2 we knew the Holy Spirit was there. The gospel of John 1:1-3,14 told us that Jesus Christ was there. And throughout the gospels Jesus kept on referring to God as the Father.

Matthew 28:19: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Article of faith

I believed God made humankind in His own image. We are a unique entity and not a product of changes that took place in the lower form of life.

I believed in God as the Father of humankind, as the saviour, Jesus Christ, and as my counselor, the Holy Spirit. I do not fully comprehend the complexity of God but it is very clear to me that there is one God and He is very complex. I counted it the greatest blessing to have known Him.
