Genesis 3 - 4: The fall of humankind
God gave humankind the choice of trusting that God knows best, or trust its own judgement. He planted a tree of knowledge of good and evil and told Adam about the significance of this tree. "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die."
One day Satan came and said to Eve. "No. You shall surely not die. God just do not want you to be as smart as He." Both Adam and Eve chose to believe Satan rather than God, after all the fruit looked delicious.
Did Satan lie? Well Adam and Eve became a little smarter. For a start, they knew about lust.
Did Adam and Eve died? Yes they did. They were made in God's image but the Spirit of God died in them. Humankind now knew about good and evil, but can never avoid doing evil.
Paul stated in Romans 7:14 & 18, "The law is spiritual; but I an carnal ........ For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish."
Was God angry? No. He was disappointed. I can see the tears in His eyes as He was making them leather jackets and sending them out of Eden. (Who said God does not know about fashion?).
Did God had to send them out of Eden? Yes. God could not trust them not to eat from the tree of life. That would have been costly. God knew humankind do not want to die. This would upset His plan of salvation. Even today many are looking for this tree of life.
God did not hold us responsible for the action of Adam and Eve. Today He is giving everyone the same option. Believe in Him and his Way for salvation or be separated from Him. With hindsight this should be easy. Still the majority of humankind believed that they knew more than God and wanted to do it "My own way".
Nothing in this world is certain. Every thing is negotiable. One exception is death. We have to die one day. To those who believed in God this is a good thing. Without death we cannot enter the last frontier.
When is time to face the music, each blamed the other. God knew better and so everyone would have to take the share of the action.
- Adam has to toil for a living
- Eve to suffer childbirth
- The snake to slide on its belly
Every time you see these truths, you have seen the God of the Bible. So is God real or what?
In chapter 4 humankind witnessed its first and second murder. Cain killed his brother out of jealousy. Did God hate Cain? No. God tried to protect him. If any one killed Cain they have to deal with God. Then came the second murder. Lamech killed a man and a boy.
I believed that humankind cannot make it on its own. Humankind needs God. Religions which taught humankind to attain perfection by its own effort, is just feeding on the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If this philosophy was true, humankind (after many cycles of life) should have learned its lesson by now. Yet we see the world getting worst, not better.
