Selection Process
One of the major difficulties in a project such as this web site is the establishment of criteria concerning whom to include. I have decided to include members of the leading quoroms (ie. 1st Presidency, Apostles, Presiding Bishopric, Presiding Patriarchs and the Presidents of Seventy. Further I have made an effort to include every person mention in the Doctrine & Covenants, authors of books published by the church, and the authors/composers of restoration hymns. Also included are the wives of the prophets, the Book of Mormon witnesses, and some that held designations such as church physician, church architect, or church historian.
Finally acknowledging that it may not be the best approach possible I have included anyone else I wanted to. This enabled me to include many who "did it first," were the villains, outlaws, and characters or our history and folklore.
Included are more than 350 entries. Approximately 150 of these are from the early period (1830-1846). Of those who went West with the "twelve" I have made only a very minimal effort to provide information regarding their lives in the post-dispersion period (for instance I have made no effort at all to keep track of all the plural marriages).
The availability of biographical resources varies greatly from person to person. This accounts for the differing lengths of the entries more than the significance of the contribution made by the subject.
Suggestions and corrections are welcomed. A discussion area is provided for comments and contributions. It is hoped that with the contributions of others this web site can become an increasingly useful reference resource.
