The Great Outdoors

One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is to strap on my backpack and head for the hills. If you live and work in Boston you might have seen me on the T on your Friday commute to and from work. I used to be the guy sitting in the back of the car with a 12 year-old patched-up backpack. Often a pair of boots hanging out on the outside. I have a new pack now :-)

Very often my destination is the White Mountains of New Hampshire although every once in a while I might stray away to Vermont or even Maine. In the summer I tend to stay down south and I love a good beach day. My favorite time of the year to go up north is the winter, when the rest of the crowd stays at home and I'm most likely to share the trail with the occasional Moose and Bear, than with a fellow hiker or climber.

For that reason, in the past few years I've been moving away from a hiking aficionado to what most people would call, a Mountaineer or Alpinist. It all started in 1993 with a wintery weather day, climb up Mt.Washington. The funny thing was... it wasn't even winter. Later on I found out that on Mt.Washington white-out blizzard conditions with 80mph winds were the norm, not the exception.

I became so enchanted with the art of mountain hiking and climbing that one year later I was on a plane to Nepal to fulfill a life long dream. And what a trip that was! From that point on, the mountains have taken up most of my free time and new dreams have opened up in the horizon. Only time will tell what happens next, as I'm always ready for a new adventure.
