About Ray Scudero

This site is dedicated to the loving memory of Ray Scudero (1946-2005).

Ray Scudero was a singer-songwriter who began his performing career in Greenwich Village in 1962. He performed throughout the United States, and toured Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Israel and England. Humor and sensitivity characterized his writings and performances.

Ray was a multi-talented artist living in Karkur, Israel. In addition to being a prolific songwriter, he was the owner and chief sound engineer of Argaman Studios and produced several successful CDs including:

He was also the owner of the Voyager Lutherie, where he custom-handcrafted some of the finest fretted instruments a person can play. Typically, the musicians physical structure would dictate the specs of the instrument, along with other preferences and requirements.

Ray was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His travels, including those experienced while sailing on the schooner Voyager, have brought him to many corners of the world including Mexico, Central America, England, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy and all but three of the United States. During the course of his travels, he augmented his experiences with studies of electronics, physics, acoustics, fluid dynamics, sound engineering and Judaism.

Throughout the years, Ray was active in arranging lodging for the homeless, bringing food to the hungry, help to convicted prisoners and music to the hospitalized. He also mentored up-and-coming musicians and supported and encouraged talent wherever he found it.

"Music has been a part of my life for as far back as I can remember," said Ray, and not only did this music bring pleasure to him, but it has been the medium through which he brought immense pleasure to others. Ray wrote several hundred songs, a plethora of poetry, and several catalytic essays and articles.

"I see myself as a humanist and a dyed-in-the-wool seeker who believes that there's an Angel in each of us—all we have to do is discover it. I believe in true and unconditional love, and though it may not conquer all, it is well worth the giving and a marvel to receive."

We all miss Ray immensely.
