Inducted May 1997

NEW TOKYO METROPOLITAN CITY HALL
Tokyo, Japan

Created by LEE SOJOT

The second SCURK image to be inducted into the SCURK HALL OF FAME is Lee Sojot's Tokyo Metropolitan City Hall. This image was the leading vote getter on the May 1997 Hall of Fame Ballot and it should be mentioned that the image also appeared on about 2/3 rds of all ballots received during the May voting. This image and many other fine images can be found on Lee's Sojot Collection Everything about Lee's web site is first class, so be certain to take time to check it out.

Lee's Sojot Collection tells us that The actual building was Built in 1991, This award-winning design by Kenzo Tange houses offices of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and is Tokyo's tallest building. Center piece of the high-rise Shinjuku district, the twin towers of this 48-story (243m, 797ft) building create a striking profile. The reflective gray/brown marble clad facade was detailed to be reminiscent of electronic circuitry, thus expressing the high-tech, information-oriented nature of modern Tokyo.
