Photography - Tintypes
From the Civil war to 1896

To the left is a tin type of Samuel Black Jr. Born 1804 Died 2-11-1891. Faded and dark, probably one of the earliest type of tins. To the Right is a Civil war tin type (colorized) of a soldier in uniform.(Chalkey Rulon) These too can carry hefty price tags ranging into the Hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Value undertermined at this time

Both of these Tintype pictures are of my Great Grand Father Marmion Stanly Black and my Great Grand Mother Elizabeth Stratton Black, taken in 1896. They took a day trip from Swedesboro NJ on the train to Philadelphia and rode around the city. Imagine what that would be like today, to have to carry your bikes on the train instead of driving.

Both Marmion and his wife are burried in Swedesboro Trinity Church, Lower cemetary

Right is Benjamin Rulon Born 6-19-1819 Died 11-14-1888. Both photos taken in 1880 ( possibly taken at Barry studios Woodbury New Jersey.)
Chalkey was a second cousin to Benjamin .

This little girl is a Rulon descendant taken in 1867. Her name eludes us at this time.
Never the less she is pictured typically with her favorite doll like most girls of her time were.
( Ida or Ellen Rulon)
