Note: All the movies were created by Toei’s staff and are NOT adapted from Kurumada’s manga. These films have no relation with the TV series and tend to contradict its continuity, so it can be said that they happen in a kind of ‘parallel universe’.

Saint Seiya: The Movie
Length 45 minutes
Plot Typical Saint Seiya plot: Eris, Goddess of Discord reincarnates in Ellie’s body and comes back to life. Then she captures Athena in order to steal her energies and then get rid of her, her only obstacle for ruling over the world. Seiya and the rest will have to rescue her before the sun sets, having to defeat Eris’ army, the Ghost Five.
Interesting feature Eris’ power comes from a Golden Apple, the symbol of immortality for both Norse and Greek mythology. And the object of discord of the *in*famous ''for the most beautiful'' myth.

Saint Seiya: Kamigami No Atsuki Tatakai (The Heated Battle of the Gods)

First shown in Japanese Cinemas in March, 1988

Length 45 minutes
Plot The story was inspired by Hyoga’s short story at the end of the volume thirteen of the manga: ‘Koori no kuni no Natasha’. Toei’s staff used this movie to test the concepts about Asgard that they were developing to invent the saga. Many of Asgard’s characters ‘descend’ from this movie, as improved versions by the TV series staff.

Hyoga disappears in Asgard and icy weather spreads through Earth. Seiya, Athena and the rest travel to find him. In Asgard they’ll have to face Dolvar and his God Warriors. Dolvar, of course, captures Athena first, while her saints will have to rescue her (again).

But this time, their unity will be broken by the presence of the mysterious God Warrior Midgard (an interesting point, probably based in the idea of Ragnarok ‘ brother shall slain brother’, and so on)

Interesting feature The battle against Shiryu and Midgard is worth seeing (a must, in fact). In this movie, Athena’s ‘object of desire’ changes from Seiya to Freya’s brother, something that breaks the usual flirting game between those two. The ending was specially design for the movie.

Saint Seiya: Shinku No Shonen Densetsu (The Legend of the Scarlet Youth)

First shown in Japanese Cinemas in July 1988

Length 70 minutes
Plot Abel/Febo, Athena’s brother, says the rest of the Gods sent him to destroy Earth, arguing it was too evil. Athena pretends to join his cause, but in the end faces him, ending in the way to death. Seiya and the rest will have to rescue her, but first they’ll have to face Abel’s three warriors and the ‘formerly dead’ Gold Saints, who where brought back to life by Abel.
Interesting feature The ending was made exclusively for this movie, and is sooo cute =)

Saint Seiya: Saishu Seisen No Senshi Tachi (Warriors of the Final Holy Battle)

First shown in Japanese Cinemas in March 1989

Length 45 minutes
Plot Lucifer comes to earth with the intentions of killing all its inhabitants. For that he goes to Sanctuary and kills all the Gold Saints. From then on, Seiya and the rest start fighting against him. After an initial defeat, the saints are at hospital, and Athena seizes the opportunity and goes to fight Lucifer by her own. The Saints follow her and face some warriors before defeating the fallen angel.
Interesting feature Athena is made to face the same obstacles Christ had to, like the road of thorns and so on.
