ANNOUNCEMENT

"ETHICS, VALUES AND STANDARDS: Building Blocks of AV Archiving"
16-20 July 2001, Arnoma Hotel
Bangkok, Thailand


This year's conference of the South East Asia-Pacific Audio Visual Archive Association will delve into the very foundation of AV archiving profession.Among the topics to be considered:

  • Ethics of Film, Video and Audio Restoration
  • Content vs. Carrier: What Are We Preserving?
  • FIAF Code of Ethics
  • Philosophy of AV Archiving: What it is and why it matters
  • Values and Ethics in Practice: Conduct of INterest, Fuzzy Logic, Temptations and Minefields!
  • Keeping Archives Honest: The Role of Professional Societies and Federations

The issues are challenging, timely, relevant and not without controversy.

LOCATION: The conference venue is the well-appointed Arnoma Hotel, 99 Rajdamri Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330. The hotel is located at the center of downtown Bangkok (perfectly situated for shopping and public transport).

ACCOMMODATION AND REGISTRATION: A special rate of US$55 per night, including buffet breakfast, has been negotiated. Conference registration is US$120 inclusive of bank charges, handouts, lunch plus morning and afternoon tea each day. Daily registration is also available.

HOST: The conference host is the Public Relations Department of Thailand, the Government radio/television broadcaster, assisted by the National Film Archive of Thailand.

ALL ARE INVITED: SEAPAVAA conferences are inclusive: all who wish to attend the program are welcome. Associate membership is available to both individual AV archivists and interested organizations anywhere in the world. The conference includes the annual General Assembly of members.

ABOUT BANGKOK: Capital city of "the land of smiles," it is one of the crossroads of Asia, a tourist mecca and gourmet's paradise. The conference program includes a city tour, but it's suggested participants to make the most of their stay by adding a couple of days to more fully explore the city's spectacular attractions, and the rich Thai culture and history.
