IMPLEMENTATION OF SEEDS
As a pilot project, ONE MRSM (MARA Junior Science College) will carry out SEEDS on a trial basis. The initial stage will last for 20 academic weeks (beginning from Semester 1, 2001). The programme proceeds with only the FEC and EIA for the next 3 semesters.
We propose MRSM Gerik to be the college in the pilot project. The target group will comprise Form 2 and Form 3 students. The Form 1 students will join the pilot project but they will not be evaluated.
# Responsibility for implementation is given to the college Principal.
# Outreach
activities are carried out in stages to introduce the objectives of the
programme
to the various groups.
# A pre-test
will be conducted in the pilot school to gauge the standard of English
at the
beginning of SEEDS.
This is followed by a post-test (1) at the end of the 5-month
period. Another post-test (2) will be conducted at the end of the 2-year
period.
# Personnel and their roles are identified to carry out the various tasks of the programme.
# At a
specified time, the daily programme starts with the handing out of 15 vocabulary
words with meanings in Bahasa Melayu (Malay). The selection will vary according
to the
level of difficulty required.
# At a
prescribed time, a broadcast/activity follows to teach , understand and
practise using
the words and their meanings.
# Reinforcement
exercises start at the second week of the programme and the exercises
incorporate all four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and
Writing.
# Monitoring
of the programme is continuous and is done at two (2) levels :
- at college level by the Principal and his/her core
personnel
- externally by the prrogramme designers.
