A bit about BSSM (why it interests me, evil dubbing, and summary)

The english dub raped it up the ass like a cheap, dirty bitch. I could write essays about how horrible the dub is... As I tell everyone, if you've only seen the dub, you haven't seen Sailormoon. It was horrible. The first season was done by Dic *shudder* and they tried to americanize it to death. They cut out scenes that had any kana or kanji it them, they cut anything that might be 'too scary', the cut things that would offend Christians (such as references to Shintoism), they cut any scenes of nudity or slight nudity (even just silhouettes), they changed the genders of certain characters to make all relationships heterosexual, they changed all the names to make them more 'american', they gave them all awful voices... Gah... Dic = spawn of Satan. Later seasons were dubbed by Cloverway, I believe, and were a little better, but not a lot. They cut an episode because there was a dinosaur in it. A dinosaur!!! ZOMG, not a dinosaur! I'm, like, so offended!! Not to mention making my favorite lesbians unusually intimate cousins (cuz incest is better than being gay...?). Here's a good site that carefully documents all the raping the dubbed has done Sailormoon Uncensored.

Sorry... I'm ranting... My point is the original Japanese it infinitely better than any dubbed version. As many manga-turned-anime, there are lots of filler episodes that can be a bit repetitive and the so-called 'monsters-of-the-day' can be extremely retarded, I still think it's a great anime. I like the manga much better, which is saying something because I do love the anime, but the manga doesn't do the repetitive thing as much and the story is more straightforward. I also think the manga is a bit darker than the anime and the author is a nut for mythology of all sorts. She also majored in chemistry, so the sci-fi elements are somewhat believable and informed.

The seasons cover a broad range of themes. The first is based on the myth of Serenity and Endymion and sets up the primary story. The second involves time-travel (which I think she pulled off well) and establishes the future of the main characters. The third introduces new characters, and is packed full of sci-fi and apocalyptic goodness. The fourth is probably the least popular. It seems like a filler season, but it has its good points; some of my favorite villains, the transvestites and the four crazy amazon chicks (yay trannies!). The fifth and final season expands the concept of planetary guardians and their guardian soldiers across the universe. It's got my all-time favorite villain, Galaxia, who kills pretty much everyone (oh noes!) and blows up planets and enslaves sailor soldiers.

The main appeal, to me, is that it's females running around kicking ass and protecting the princess (who also kicks ass)... and a male. The male is more the damsel in distress than the chicks are, which I always get a kick out of. Shit... thins turned into quite the rant... I'm sorry, but I hoped it at least piqued your interest... >__> I'm such a dork...
