The Present: Tokyo, Japan![]() "My name is Tsukino Usagi, 14 years old... I'm a little clumsy and a bit of a crybaby..." Usagi Tsukino is a regular 14-year-old girl living in Tokyo, Japan. She likes to eat and play video games at the local arcade, where she has a crush on the local boy who works there, Motoki. She is always late for school and usually has bad test scores. She has a best friend, Naru, and the dork of her class, Umino, has a huge crush on her. On the way to school one day, Usagi saves a black cat from a group of boys who are teasing it. On the way home that same day, the cat follows Usagi home. She then reveals herself as Luna, guardian of the warrior Sailor Moon. She tells Usagi that she is really a fighter for justice and gives her a magical brooch to transform. Jadeite, the first general of the Dark Kingdom, has a plot to steal the energy of Earth's people and feed it to his leader, Queen Metallia. A woman named Beryl has been possessed by the evil Metallia and has enslaved the four generals to do her bidding. Sailor Moon follows Luna's instructions and begins to learn to fight against the minions of the Dark Kingdom. In her first encounter against an enemy, she receives some help from a mysterious man in a tuxedo and instantly falls in love. With Tuxedo Mask's help, she continues to foil Jadeite's plans. While walking around town, Usagi repeatedly has the misfortune of running into a particularly unpleasant college-aged guy who teasingly calls her "Odango atama" (dumpling head). Usagi and Luna eventually find some other members of the team, Ami (Sailor Mercury) and Rei (Sailor Mars). Together, the three of them band together and defeat Jadeite. Beryl then casts him into "eternal slumber" for his failure. Nephrite is the next general to attempt to steal Earth's human energy. Instead of stealing it from masses of people, he uses the stars to choose one person to steal from and waits till they are at their peak. Unfortunately, while stealing energy from individuals, Usagi's best friend Naru falls in love with Nephrite. He dies in Naru's arms. After being defeated multiple times by the sailor senshi, Nephrite gives up stealing energy from humans. Beryl also discovers that she needs to find the Ginzuishou (silver crystal) to revive Metallia. Nephrite obtains the "black crystal," which will point him to the Ginzuishou. Sailor Moon confronts Nephrite in battle, but Naru jumps in front of Sailor Moon's tiara to save him. It is all in vain, however, because the other two generals, Kunzite and Zoisite, have plotted to kill him and send out assassins, who murder him in front of Naru and Sailor Moon. Next, the senshi find Makoto (Sailor Jupiter). Meanwhile, Queen Beryl reworks the black crystal so it will find the seven shards of the Ginzuishou, the rainbow crystals. Zoisite is put in charge of finding these crystals. The sailor senshi begin to question whether Tuxedo Mask is on their side after he declares that he is also looking for the Ginzuishou. However, they don't know it's because he wants to discover his past and the identity of the moon princess who haunts his dreams. In battles, Zoisite obtains four of the crystals, Tuxedo Mask gets two and the senshi recover one. In a plot to get Tuxedo Mask's crystals, Zoisite and Kunzite create a fake Sailor Moon and lure him and the senshi in. However, the appearance of Minako (Sailor Venus) saves the day. Zoisite again challenges Tuxedo Mask to a battle for the crystals. A curious Usagi follows an injured Mamoru and they are trapped together and are forced to each transform in front of the other. Usagi discovers that her love is actually the annoying Mamoru Chiba who she keeps running into on the street. Kunzite steals all the rainbow crystals during the fight and Tuxedo Mask jumps in front of a blow meant for Sailor Moon. Usagi's tear over her fallen hero combines with the seven rainbow crystals and becomes the Ginzuishou and Sailor Moon is revealed as the moon princess everyone has been searching for. She remembers her tragic past on the Moon Kingdom and passes out. Kunzite kidnaps the injured Tuxedo Mask and takes him to the Dark Kingdom where Beryl brainwashes him to become her evil prince. She kills Zoisite for lying to her and leaves Kunzite the responsibility of destroying the senshi. In a final battle against Kunzite, he accidentally sends the senshi back to the time on the Moon Kingdome where they learn the tragic story of the past and Princess Selenity meets her mother. They come back to meet Kunzite and destroy him. Artemis and Luna discover the Dark Kingdom's entrance and the senshi teleport to take on Beryl. Before they can reach the entrance however, they are confronted by the DD Girls, assassins sent by Beryl. One by one, the DD Girls kill the four inner senshi, although they don't go down without bringing the enemy with them. Usagi, distraught, can't bear to go on without her friends, but is teleported against her will to Beryl's lair. It is there where she is reunited with Mamoru, but he is evil, brainwashed by Beryl. He attacks her, but she cannot bear the thought of fighting him. She tries to heal him with her wand, but the power holding him is too strong. Instead she pleads with him to remember their love and their past on the Moon Kingdom, presenting him with a locket he gave to her so long ago. He remembers, and is purged of Beryl's brainwashing. Beryl, in insane jealousy, hurls a black crystal at Sailor Moon. Mamoru leaps in its path, blocking her and killing himself. With no one left beside her, Sailor Moon confronts a possessed Queen Beryl alone. She uses the power of the Ginzuishou, which can only be used by forfeiting her life, along with the power leant to her by her friends and saves the world. With her last few breaths, Usagi wishes to be a normal girl again. She and the others are reborn, but with no knowledge of their past lives or their lives as senshi and friends.
