The Challenge:
At the advent of the new Millenium illiteracy stands like a demon to undo our plans & projects of social, economic & cultural development of 500 million uneducated Indians in the next millennium
Total Tribal Population=10 crores
<*> Below Poverty Line=95%
<*> Total No:of Tribal Villages=1,20,000
<*> Reachable Roads=90% donot have reachable Roads
<*> There is more than 33% of INDIAN Population living below
Poverty Line
<*>The Litteracy Rates are as low as 5% and even 0% Could you believe?
Tribal Population in AP
The Solution:The Solution Ofcourse is Taking Education to their Door Step for those who can't afford. And Thats What SEVA BHARATHI has been doing and will Continue.
Single teacher schools : The single Teacher Schools located in interior tribal and most backward areas where literacy is at a very low level have been providing the fruits of education to them. Some 4397 children are benifited from the program in 200 tribal hamlets running 151 STS as the govt. could not reach these interior villages.
Adoption of schools by donors is a special feature of this project. This is an important step in bringing literacy essentially to the neglected children. Another point of mention is the teacher selected from among the better educated locals and trained to the cause. The TEACHER (91such teachers are presently on a mission to bring about a change among their fellow men and women) will be the center of all future development activity in the village.
PRIMARY EDUCATION CENTERS : The epicenters of literacy campaign are the 5 full fledged schools providing education to 550 students at Proddutoor (Cudappah DT.), Kollampally (Mahaboobnagar DT.), Machupahad (Warangal Dt.), Balajinagar (Hyderabad), Kandukurti (Nizamabad) and Gokavaram has also a Voccational Training center (Kurnool Dist) with full fledged teaching aids and staff. The single teacher schools are also an additional activity these Primary education centers take up with conviction.
Child labour : Apart from the regular schools Seva Bharathi is conducting schools for the Child Laborers at Proddutur (cudappa Dist) and Amistapur, Makhtal, Balmoor, Hanwada, Dasapalli, Aiza, Maddur, Kothapalli, Pangal (All in Mahaboobnagar dist). The school at proddutur is an effort successfully organised for the past 7 years and funded by the dept. of labour. The School has 142 students all selected from the child labourers in and around proddutur. A new Residential bridge school under the co-ordination of the ILO and the ( Consortium of Employers' Associations for the eradication of Child labour) CEASE is being run by Sevabharati with 200 children 100 boys and 100 girls. Sevabharathi Now has 9 Child Labour Eradication centers with over 800 children. The campaign for eradication of child labour paired with alternative education with innovative methods has made the children earlier child labourers now stay with sevabharati to get back to school.
Adult Education centers : Adult education centers are giving the taste of learning to 55 women all vegetable vendors and daily wage labourers in Dindigal and 32 women in Nandyal. This effort forms a part of a wider agenda on total literacy through Information, communication and education as three strategies.
There are millions in the deep forests, in the midst of the metros, and among us who are not literate in the most modern times of the planets timeline. India has a president who dreams and is toiling for the new resurgent developed India. And we all know, without literacy we can never reach the dreams of the dear president. The literacy rate of India stands at 64% behind the developing countries. We need to toil to get back to what we deserve.
Sevabharathi has been educating the Tribals in the deeper forests of the Nallamalai in the Chenchus (PTG), the Adilabad in Gonds, Kollhams, Pradhans, Koyas, manne, the mahabbobnagar and the Warangal districts in the Lambadas and koyas braving all the anti-social elements. The kids from the slums of twin cities, the interiors of Nizamabad, the anantapur and cuddapah dist are also part of the YAJNA. There are 100 and 20 young men and women, the first generation literates, selected from their own communities and working in realisation of the dreams.
Named as Single teacher School (Non formal education center), the school is a nucleus of hope and an effort to nurture and let the indigenous talent flourish. The Program is aimed at improving the conditions of the people at large through literacy to their kids. All the inputs in the programme are from the local community necessarily. The Programme is extended to 8 districts and spread over 22 Mandals with 143 of them in place and teaching the flavour of literacy to 4870 kids.
Sevabharathi has resolved to reach more hamlets, slums and interior villages most of them untouched by the Govt machinery. The effort is to strengthen the indigenous urge to uplift them while holding their rich traditions and culture. It is now three years and still more to achieve. The impact of the school has been striking in the areas of operation. In 2001-02 a total of 27 children have been bridged in to Govt High schools and 4 of them in to APRS and over half of them will go to schooling further next year.
A minimum support of Rs. 15,000/- p.a. will go towards teaching, Training and maintainance of the school. The support shall mean light and a starting towards the greater dream of developed India.
