Introduction
2 The criteria for satisfaction and how educational institutions can fulfill them

2.4 Knowledge and alertness

Prejudice, inconfidence and ignorance are often caused by a lack of knowledge. So are unemployment and sickness. It is obvious that living in and maintaining our time's society demands everyone to know his or her part and to know about what others are supposed to do and what they are not supposed to do. It needs us to make decisions every day and the more often we know how to make the right decision, the better.

The public needs to be aware of how they are being linked by certain parts of the commercial sector and by certain politicians. So often we are inclined to vote for a certain party that promises us a better life yet without proposing their plans as to how they are going to achieve their dreams; this in turn leaves us disillusioned when we find out that our favoured party is not able to provide solutions to our problems and we will want to blame it on the government when all the while it is us who cannot see through empty promises and we ourselves do not know how to achieve what we want and no one better is there to take the place of an unpopular and unsuccessful politician.

Alertness will also make better customers that shop for quality. Some companies seem to ensure a continuous sale of their products by making them less long lasting (back in time, a camera would last you 10 or 20 years, now it will last only two or three years) and since technique is developing fast, consumers seldom complain, but willingly buy upgraded products. Yet if long lasting, many things could be sold second hand to customers that do not have the money to buy the latest gadgets. Thus companies can still try to sell new products continuously, first hand customers will be able to deduct the value of their old product from the price it takes to buy a new one and devices like computers, cell phones, video recorders, CD writers, scanners, advanced cameras and the like have a chance to invade those layers of our society which earlier did not have the possibility to own those things at all (since a first hand buy is too expensive and a second hand buy comes with a high risk of the product being spoilt very soon). Thus all three parties will be satisfied and the general living standard will increase.

It has been stated and discussed many times that knowledge about other cultures will increase intercultural and -racial understanding. Even bridges between different classes of society need to be built. Often we pay a cleaner less respect than a head of a successful company. Again, frustration and jealousy leads to hatred and prejudice. My suggestion for job sharing above (1.3 Activity) will automatically lead to classes getting mixed. Hence, a cleaner will have more understanding for the head of department that drives a big car according to the amount of responsibility he bears and the head of department will have more understanding for the cleaner who after all is doing an inevitable task for a minimal wage. It will encourage leading personalities to make friends with lower class workers and therefore better understand their needs and opinions and it will give lower class people access to events that are formerly exclusively for members of the 'high society'.

A better education obviously leads to knowledge and alertness can be enhanced by teaching 'awareness' from young and making it a habit. Sometimes pure knowledge does not prevent dislike though; going further into this document, the reader will learn that variation of environment is a vital part of the proposed educational system. Students are highly encouraged to explore other places and cultures personally and make friends with people of the same age and interest all over the nation and world. Personal experience and in the ideal case even friendship will create an atmosphere of sympathy for the other race or nation. Patience and flexibility are essential here, since different people gain knowledge and matureness at different speeds. Present day educational systems greatly lack patience and flexibility.
