SOUTH AFRICA

2003

26 August to 18 September

We have just had the most wonderful holiday, staying in Pretoria with Maggie and Alvan. We spent a very enjoyable week at the coast at Umhlanga just north of Durban. Maggie and Alvan have a time share there. We watched the dolphins swimming past every morning, visited Durban, the Umgeni River Bird Park and the Natal Sharks Board, had a dip in the Indian Ocean, did a catamaran trip one evening and generally enjoyed relaxing around the pool and on the beach.

We then spent a week in the Kruger Park. This was so fantastic. We were lucky enough to see all the big five and even get close photos of four of them. We needed our binoculars for our sighting of Leopard but the other four are shown below.

There were lots of other interesting sights and it was all an amazing experience

It was really good to see Maggie and Alvan again. The photo on the left is taken at the Lower Sabie rest camp and the one on the right at Talamati.

Here we all are shivering at the Tropic of Capricorn. Happily the weather was better most of the time than it was this day!

The time flew by. We all had a ball. Now we're back in the U.K. enjoying the photos and the memories and thinking about the next holiday!

2000

We spent the most fantastic month in South Africa in October/November 2000. We did a Ramblers Holiday - Exploring Cape Province and then went to visit our friends Maggie and Alvan who live in Pretoria. They took us to a bush camp at Sondela. It was memorable. We came back with over 200 photographs of which just a few are on this page. Above is a picture of Table Mountain with the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in the foreground.
