Tom and I caught a shuttle out on Sunday morning the 17th and
went to 522 and hiked south back into Duncannon. It was high
over the mountains with very little water in that area. There
were some smooth surfaces, but mostly rocks. Whenever we got
near the end of out hike, we got into big piles of rock formations
and had to scramble up over then, around them, and underneath them
in order to get through. Then we came down off the hill in
long switch backs and came around an old stone foundation where
there had once been a house, and saw some more stone fences. |
By the time we got out to 522 and getting
ready to cross the bridges to go in to Duncannon, it had started to
drizzle. I put on my rain cover over my pack and came on out
the road. By the time we started crossing the Susquehanna
Bridge it was pouring rain, windy to the point we could hardly walk
across the bridge. |
By the time we got back to the Riverfront
Camp Ground where Tom had his car parked, we were soaked again.
I quickly changed my wet clothes into my few dry clothes I had and
Tom was going to take me to Harrisburg to the motel where my
daughter Nancy was coming to meet me. I got into the motel
about 8:30pm. |
I introduced Tom to Nancy and Carol, and
told we had been hiking together about a week and soon Tom was on
his way back home to Atlanta. |
