It's 7am and the sun is beginning to rise.
I have about 5 miles to hikes into Port Clinton. It's very
quiet this morning. No noises, the woods is all hardwoods, lot of
maple and sassafras. Lot of laurel and undergrowth for animals
to be around, however all I've seen has been little chipmunks. I've
seen a lot of birches in this area, but this is the first time I've
seen white birches. |
The trail is very flat since I left the
camp. I have gone through several rocky areas and then the
trail has a little bit of a reprieve by being halfway smooth.
EJ (son-in-law) must be taking some time off with school. I
haven't heard anything go over until just a few minutes ago.
He must be waiting for me to get above tree line before he drops his
water balloon on me. I'll have to watch for him through there.
I certainly will be a wide open target. |
Simon is out in front of me; he's really
sniffing the ground, there must have been
some kind of an animal that went through on this trail earlier this
morning. Here comes the rock piles. I watch Simon and
follow his paw steps and go where ever he steps and he stays right
on the trail. Amazing how he operates, I doubted him once
yesterday and went a different direction and sure enough I went back
to the way he went the first time and he was right. Came on to
a beautiful view when I came out on a rock cliff and could look over
into the mountains and see the clouds down in between the mountains. |
Came out on to a dirt road and couldn't find any
blazes, so I looked down the road to the west and there was a rock
pile pointing the direction. I met 2 south bound section
hikers and I just passed a family going south. I must be
getting close to Port Clinton. |
Walking on to the bridge that goes into
Port Clinton. |
