General Information
Blood Mountain Shelter is located atop the highest peak on the AT in Georgia (4,461 feet).  No water, no firewood; no fires permitted.  Sleeps 8 with no privy.
Left Big Cedar soaking wet.  Trail rough.  Lunch at Wood's Hole Shelter, which was approximately 1.2 mile off the AT.  New shelter with a mouldering privy. which I really like!!  Thought about staying there, but decided to push on to Neels Gap which would make us a 10 mile day, the longest day yet.
Went up Blood Mt.  The Ascent was steep with big boulders for steps in the trail for a path.  Top was Laurel and Rhododendron bushes, wind blown scrubby oaks - views would have been terrific but we sere still surrounded in clouds, couldn't  see a dang thing  Took pictures of Blood Mt. and left.  The descent off the mountain was horrible - more boulders for steps, but thank heavens the rain had stopped.  Arrived at Neels Gap (Walasi-Yi) at 6:00pm just in time before the Mountain Outfitter closed.  A local man bought me a coke, what a wonderful taste, and then drove Jay, Simon and me to Goose Creek where we got cabins.
Get this, for $35 each we have had our laundry done, shuttled 22 miles to the Cookie Jar AYCE Restaurant for supper.  Today we will be shuttled back to Neels Gap.  We are now 30 miles north of Springer Mt.
