We are leaving
612 and going to Bland, hopefully we can get a room at Big Walker
Motel and pick up a post office drop. |
In a
hard wood forest with a lot piths and white pines . The trail
is covered with leaf dust and pine needles, so far it's an easy
trail. We are ascending a little before we go into Bland
today. It's a pretty morning, the sun is out and its looks
pretty coming through the tree canopy. No thunder storms or
showers last night, thank heavens! It's supposed to be warm
today, I'm tired of the rain and I'm tired of the cold. The
trail is now undulating not steep with switch backs making it easy
to travel. |
The woods have
been dotted with orange and yellow honeysuckle and pink
rhododendrons on the northern end of this trail. I have a
pretty view of the valley of Bland. Also on the southern end
of Bland opens up to farm land, you can see the cattle and the farm
fields. There is a two story house down here that has the
brightest red roof I have ever seen. |
All along the
trail today we've been seeing a lot of cinnamon fern , Christmas
fern and sand fern. We also saw some tiny little flocks
growing on the side of the bank. |
Just has a
young bear run across in front of us and down over the hill. |
Came out on to
a gravel road and have to do some road walking to get to 52.
Hitched a ride with the Bland transit shuttle that runs through
several little town in this area. Got into town , went to the
IGA, post office, and got everything ready to mail back to my next
mail drop at Pearisburg. |
It's still a
sunny day, the wind is cool, but it's been beautiful and we haven't
gotten any rain. We're going to leave here in the morning and
be on our way north again. |
