I'm leaving from the Wild Cat Gondola area to Pinkham Notch.  I rode the Gondola up to the Wild Cat Mountain and from there I'm hiking the AT which is also Wild Cat Ridge Line and going back down in to Pinkham Notch.  It's going to be a short day for me, but I didn't get started until 4:00pm.  At least I'll be able to get something done today.
The Gondola was interesting riding up.  It's a beautiful day, a little on the hazy side, but I can still the top of Mt. Washington.  The top of the mountain has some large boulders that I had to climb up on to, to get to the ridge.  Then it became easy hiking, roots and fairly level for a little ways.  I had to go down big boulders, very steep, this might prove to be quite interesting getting off of here.
It looks like this ridge line trail is going to be very roller coaster like.  I just finished going down and now I'm going up big huge boulders again.   Big steep rocks going up and down, the pines are very dense right beside of me and hardly any views.  I just had to do some hand over hand rock climbing up to an open view of the valley below.
Going down these rocks there smooth, but they are steep.  I'll probably have to wind-up sitting down on my rear and sliding on some of them.  They are metamorphic and they are rough.  You really have to watch your footing on these.  For the past 10 minutes I've been going down slabs of vertical rock.  I just cam down a set of wooden steps.
I missed the marker and went over the big rocks and when I realized I wasn't  on the trail, it was to late because I couldn't get back up.  From that point on I was off the trail.  It took me a while to make my way down through the woods, but I kept the road noise in front of me and I knew that if I was going down stream I has to go close to a river.  I hiked through the woods and found rocks that was basicly a stream bed and I followed them a ways, then I kept cutting through the woods to my right which I was pretty sure I need to go to the right and then I'd follow another stream bed and just worked my way out and finally I came back out to the AT trail.  Then I got down to the river and found that I had to cross the river.  I was able to rock hop across it and went up to the State highway 16 crossed it and into the parking lot where I caught a ride up to Pinkham Lodge with one of the local hikers that had just came out ahead of me.
     It was a good day!
