Leaving Pleasant Pond Shelter at 7:40am.  I stayed with 2 guys last night by the name of Ed and Scot.  Ed is from Maine and Scot is From VA.  They're going north.  I'm the only one that is going south.  I have to go down to the road where I came in and see if I can pick up the trail.  It took me about 15 minutes and had to back track some, but I finally picked up the trail going towards the Kennebec River and Rt. 201 south.
So far the trail has been rocky and rooty.  Muddy and pint needle and leaf dust covered through pine woods.  It's been fairly level, little ups and downs, but nothing that stops me.  I'll probably able to make 2 miles an hour if it continues like this.  Right now I hiking above a small creek.  Only have had one creek crossing so far.  I should be getting into the Kennebec River are where they will ferry me across.
The weather has been a little warmer than it has been for the last 2 or 3 days.  So much for the nice straight trail, there have been a lot of mud holes, swamps, a couple of streams and I'm going straight up the mountain now.  It looks like I about ready to come out to the parking lot before long.  Somebody took a crutch and painted it red and hung it up into the tree.  It's says River's Trail at the end of the crutch.
I've meet 5 north bounders this morning and one section hiker this morning.  I'm at Rt. 201.  Longley's wasn't taking any more people for over night.  I guess Steve's Longley's mother is ill and he is out of town and someone else is just straying there to take care of the business.  I came down to Northern Outdoors Lodge which is about 2 miles off the trail, but I hitched a ride.  I was here by noon.  It is a really nice area.  I have a nice room, I can look down and see the TV down stairs from my bedroom window.  A nice to remember to come back to.  The shuttle will leave at 9:30am and that will take me down to the AT where it crosses the Kennebec River.  There I will be shuttled across by canoe. It's been a great short day and I needed to rest.  Talk to you later.
