What happened last Meeting

12th February 2002
Novice Competition

This was the first meeting at our new venue, The Volunteer Marine Hall, Allpass Parade, Shorncliffe.

Toastmaster David kept the meeting on a light note with jokes and quotes.

Wordmaster

Penne had chose the word "beginning" because we were beginning a new era in our new meeting place. Also, she explained a beginner is a novice - and this was our Novice Speech Competition night.

Round Robin

The Round Robin was introduced by Monica. As it was the Chinese New Year, we each recieved a Fortune Cookie. The fortunes were read and commented on in turn.

Quote

Kelly suggested that if we were each given a renewable bank account of $86400  each day with no withdrawing against tomorrow, we would probably make sure we withdrew it all  every day. She then reminded us that we have 86400 minutes at our disposal every day and what we don't use is lost forever.

Educational

"Creating the best Club Climate" was a very informative segment presented by Monica, who reminded us the atmosphere of the club is created by our commitment.

Novice Speech Competition

1. "Enjoy, Do Not Destroy" Del created a mood of suspense and led us into the intricate world of spiders and their webs.

2. "The Dating Game" Kim gave an animated and  humorous account of her experiences in her search for "Mr Right."
(Eligible males may leave their email address in our Guest Book.)

3. "A Tree" Joyce had a lot of interesting information about Genealogy and Family Trees.

4. "From Scribble to Discernible" Bing used examples of children's art to trace the development pre-schoolers "scribbles."

5. "That's Just Not On - or Is It?" Christal  gave an entertaining account of her brushes with etiquette (or lack of it) in car parks, stairs and shopping centres. She used matchbox cars to demonstrate the scene in a car park.
