Sandgate Toastmasters

What happened last Meeting

September 25

The meeting began on a sombre note, with a toast to American Toastmasters who had died in the tragic bombing of the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Toastmaster Maurie read a relevant and thought provoking poem, Paradox of our Times. There were three guests, Lenore and Ryan (who were present last meeting) and Scott. Lenore decided to join our club and was unanimously voted in.

Round Robin
"I see my self as..." Penne invited us to tell what animal, vegetable or mineral we see ourselves as. The answers were varied and the reasons humorous, eg: wild mountain pony, block of wood, chameleon, butterfly, banana, onion, cat, turtle, dragon, apple, bird, rhino, gold, dog, mule etc.

Table Topics

Monica chose some of the Table Topics that had been fun and challenging in past meetings.

1. Why do elephants eat peanuts?

2. Repairing Despair

3. Describe the inside of a ping pong ball.

4. My favourite day of the week.

5. You discover your garden statue can talk.

6. Describe some of the health benefits of vegemite.

Speeches

"Bloody Why?"  In his fourth speech from the Communication and Leadership manual, Garth used great gestures and vocal variety  and humour to describe the sinking of the Titanic and the feminist response to "Women and children first."

"Labels"  Joyce presented a well organised and interesting speech on the history and use of labels. It was her third speech.
