Lesbian and gay switchboards

Look in your local phone book under the words Most big towns and cities have gay switchboards. The 'lesbian and gay' or just 'gay'. number for London switchboard is 0171 837 7324. Its open 24 hours but it's very busy. Try one of the other switchboards if you can't get through.

 

The Terrence Higgins Trust Helpline

0171 242 1010 (midday until 10pm every day). They can send you information about HIV, AIDS and safer sex and answer your questions.

Albert Kennedy trust

0171 831 6562 (office hours). Advice and support for gay and bisexual teenagers made homeless because of their sexuality.

 

Bisexual Helpline

0181 569 7500 (Tuesday and Wednesday 7.30pm - 9.30pm).

 

Black Lesbian and Gay helpline

0171 620 3885 (Tuesday and Thursday 11am-5.30pm).

 

Childline

0800 1111 For support with a variety of problems, including bullying, 24 hours a day.

 

Friend

0171 837 3337 Offers information on support and counselling available nationally for people having problems related to their sexuality.

 

Jewish Lesbian and Gay helpline

0171 706 3123 (Monday and Thursday 7-10pm)

 

Lesbian and Gay Christian helpline

0171 739 8134 (Wednesday and Sunday 7-10pm). Information on support available in a variety of Christian churches.

 

National AIDS helpline

0800 567 123 Information on HIV, AIDS and safer sex. Open 24 hours a day.

 

Parents' Friend

0113 267 4626 Support and advice by and for families with gay and bisexual children.

 

Positive Youth

0171 373 9124 (Mon-Fri 7pm-10pm Sat/Sun 4pm-10pm). Advice and support for people under 25 living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

 

Project LSD

0171 288 1500 Information on drug use for gay and bisexual people.

 

SHAKTI

0171 837 7341 South Asian Lesbian and Gay Network (Thursdays 8-10pm)

 

Survivors
