My Favorite Movies
This is a list of some of movies that I love.
I like all kinds of movies.
2001: A space Odyssey
My favorite movie, period. I have seen this movie upwards of a hundred
times. It still holds its own. It has the look overall of being more
recent than the thirty years ago it was filmed.
Blade
Runner Wonderful
movie. I particularly like the directors cut which does not have narrative
in it. Harrison Ford is wonderful in this movie. It was my first
exposure to Rutger Haur. He was fabulous. Look him up in Soldier of
Orange.
Kikujiro
This is a recent
Japanese movie. It is lovely. The soundtrack is beautiful. A
boy, who lives with his grandmother, sets out on a trip to find his
mother. He is escorted by a "slacker" and they have adventures
along the way with many colorful people. It is very beautiful and should
be interesting enough for older children.
Lady
Hawke This is a
wonderful movie. This movie is placed in the days of castles, knights and
magic. The hero is a wolf at night his love is a Hawk during the
day. They are doomed to not be together as people until the possibility
arises with the arrival of a third party.
Picture
Bride This is a Japanese
movie set in Hawaii. It is about a man who sends away for his
"picture bride" from Japan. She is very young and the only catch
is that he uses his photo from when he was around 20 (he is in his
forties). Very beautiful scenery and romantic.
Princess
Bride This is great
movie for both adults and children. It is adventurous and funny at the
same time. It is set up as a fairy tale being told to a grandson.
The
Man From Snowy River One
of my all time favorites. An incredible tale of a boy coming of age.
The horse riding scenes are spectacular and it should be noted that there is a
scene were the hero jumps his horse off the side of a mountain. There were
no tricks used in the photography and the actor had not ridden horses much prior
to the making of the movie.
Wallace
and Gromit
Incredible clay animation. There are three movies, "A Grand Day
Out", "The Wrong Trousers" and "A Close Shave".
There is another tape called "Creature Comforts" which has several
shorts in it. The one I like the most is an interview with Zoo
animals. A must see for both adults and children. My students in
China were in love with these tapes.
The
Sound of Music The very
first movie I ever saw. I was four when it came out. I remember the
theater and the wedding scene. My parents said that I cried in that
scene. This movie is up there with 2001 as far as favorite movies go for
me.
Diva
A romantic
thriller involving action, arias and assasins. An 18 year old postal worker
secretly tapes more than the concert of a super star diva, and suddenly finds
himself chased through the streets of Paris by hit-men, blackmailers and the
police.
