Grand Canyon National Park Building #9
Constructed in 1935 - Original cost was $8,646.00

Built as a 2-story wood frame structure on a continuous exterior stone foundation, with oak floors, and living room fireplace built of stone masonry in conjunction with the adjacent stone terrace.

This building replaced the existing Doctor’s residence which was obsolete and unsafe. (located at the east end of the tracks.)

Robert E. Riggs designed it with 6 rooms, 2 baths and an attached garage.

In 1950 work was completed to add a new heating system to the house.  Initially it had been on the village steam heat system that originated from the powerhouse.  A chimney and a few walls were added for this heater work.

In 1997 the old furnace was replaced and moved to the garage so the space in the middle of the house could be used more efficiently.
