Waabooz Kamaad: (Rabbit Commod) Father of Gidigaa'bizhiw and Zhingos, Husband of Gaagozid and son to Waawaabiganoojiinh and Wazhask Kamaad.
Gaagozid Kamaad: (Porcupine foot Commod) Mother to Gidigaa'bizhiw and Zhingos, Waabooz' wife.
Gidigaa'bizhiw Kamaad: (Bobcat Commod)Youngest child to Gaagozid and Waabooz. (daughter)
Zhingos Kamaad: (Weasel Commod) Oldest child to Gaagozid and Waabooz. (son)
Wazhask Kamaad: (Muskrat Commod) Waabooz' father and Gidigaa'bizhiw and Zhingos' Grandfather.
Waawaabiganoojiinh Kamaad: (Mouse Commod) Waabooz' mother. Also, Gidigaa'bizhiw and Zhingos' Grandmother.
Ajidamoo Kamaad: (Squirrel Commod) Waabooz' younger, more foolish brother.
Scene I
Sd. An modern everyday Ojibwe family, the children have just come home from school and their Father has just walked in the door and going towards the kitchen. Mother has been cleaning house all day and is very tired looking.
Children: We’re hungry, who’s going to cook?
Sd. Father walks into the kitchen
Father(to Mother): You must be tired, let’s go to a restaurant.
Children: Yes, let’s go out to eat!
Sd. Mother nods and smiles at Father.
Father: I’ll drive.
Scene II
Sd. Half an hour after the children have come home from school , Mother looks much happier and has taken a shower and put make up on. The children have also cleaned up. Father drives like he has all the time in the world.
Mother: Children, what did you do in school today?
Sister: We painted and played outside.
Brother: We fixed a car and smoked in the woods.
Father: Don’t smoke!
Mother: He must be pretending to smoke. (laughing)
Brother( to Father): Where are we going?
Father: The Palace restaurant and Casino.
Mother: Your father wants to gamble after he eats.
Sister(to Mother): What are you going to do after we eat?
Mother: I’m going to play Bingo.
Children(worrying): What are we going to do then?
Father: You can go swimming or watch T.V. or play after we eat.
(children act happy and they stop fighting for a while)
Scene III
Sd. Mother and Father have finished eating and are now in the Casino, Mother has won at Bingo and Father has gone almost broke. The children are in the Hotel in the room Mother and Father have rented for the night. Mother and Father had planned this trip and threw the children’s swimming things in the trunk before leaving.
Mother(to Father): Are you having fun?
Father: Do you have any money?
Mother: Yes, I have some, Why?
Father: I want a beer.
Mother(somewhat evasively): Maybe later. You can’t drink here anyway.
Sd. Father sees his parents, Grandfather and Grandmother, by the Keno and Nickel machines.
Father(pointing at the Keno Machines): Who is that gambling?
Mother: That’s Grandmother and Grandfather!
Sd. They go over to the Keno machines and visit with G.Father and G.Mother.
Father to G.Mother: What are you doing?
G.Mother: Gambling, what’s it look like?
Mother to G. Mother and G.Father: Are you winning?
G.Father: We’re pretending to win.
G.Mother: How about you guys, are you winning?
Mother: I won a little at Bingo.
Father: I didn’t even break even
Sd. G.Mother sees her younger son, Bob across the way. He’s weaving erratically between the other customers and bumping into them. They glare at him angrily
G.Mother: Who is that over there? (pointing with her lips)
Father (looking): It’s my younger brother, he looks drunk!
Sd. Father and Mother wave to G.Mother and go over to where Uncle Bob sat down and put a few nickels in.
Father to Bob: Are you drunk?
Mother aside to Father: He stinks!
Uncle B.: I’m only pretending to be drunk.
Mother: Are you lying?
Uncle B.: I drank too much wine at dinner.
Mother: Maybe you should go home and go to sleep.
Father aside to Uncle B.: hey, give me a drink, eh?
Mother overhearing: Don’t you drink, you’ll get sick like the last time you pretended to drink!
Hits him. She looks at Father appraisingly.
Mother: We better get the kids from the pool and get to sleep too.
Scene IV
Sd. Morning in the Palace Hotel. Kids and Mother are already awake and watching the television. Father is about to wake up.
Father, waking up slowly: Let’s go get some breakfast now, eh?
All: Yeah, let’s go eat!
