The 2004 AND 1 Mix Tape Tour continues with an entertaining win for AND 1, 86-71. San Diego got one heck of a show highlighted by ankle-breaker after dunk after alley-oop and then some. Tonight was the first elimination game for the ESPN2 television show as players “757” (Sante Gale, picked up in Oakland), “J-Rock” (Justin Bellegarde, picked up in Sacramento) and “Exile- the Young One” (Roberto Yong, picked up in Sacramento) had to play with the San Diego squad and prove they deserved to be a part of the tour. In the end, J-Rock was eliminated as both 757 and Young One had great games, with 28 and 10 points, respectively.
Main Event once again lead the AND 1 team with 24 points, five boards and four dunks. He also stopped the game with about five minutes left as A.O. set him up for one of the sickest dunks the tour has seen to date this summer. He drove the lane and hit a one-armed jam off a bounce pass from A.O. over traffic to clear the entire AND 1 bench and stop the clock as the entire Sports Arena of more than 5600 fans went crazy.
Overall, AND 1 picked it up right at the end of the first half, after trailing the entire game they went up on a bucket from Escalade to go into halftime up 48-47. In the second half, the AND 1 team put on an unbelievable show for the crowd- from 50’s series of dunks, to Sauce pulling his moves on the local team, the game was one show-stopper after another as the game ended in the crowd giving a standing ovation.
