And One были, без всякого сомнения, крутейшей немецкой синти-командой 90х. После их первого сингла "Metalhammer", сильно EBM-ароматизированного, их репертуар сменился на EBM-поп на альбомах "Spot" и "I.S.T.", а затем на что-то близкое к синти-попу на "Nordhausen" и "9.9.99 9 Uhr". And One на "Virgin Superstar" звучат совсем по-другому. Группа увеличилась на еще одного члена, Аннели Бертилссон (Annelie Bertilsson) из Cat Rapes Dog. И Кристер Гермодссон (Christer Hermodsson) (более известный как Crull-E из S.P.O.C.K) был вовлечен в продакшн нового альбома. То, что с ними работал человек со стороны, это довольно редкое событие в истории And One. Вероятно, частично именно из-за этого, "Virgin Superstar" звучит по-иному. Большинство его десяти песен сделаны в удобной для прослушивания и для раскрутки по радио форме, и раннее, иногда более или менее очевидное, влияние Depeche Mode сменилось на влияние Робби Уильямса (Robbie Williams) и Pet Shop Boys. Сингл "Wasted" имеет большой потенциал для хитовости. Заглавный трэк сильно пахнет заигрыванием с хит-листами, а "Life to Lose" имеет такой слащавый припев, что легко может попасть на конкурс Евровидения. Практически только "Wet Spot" (которую поет Аннели) и "Panzermensch" дышат волшебством, которое мы в свое время находили в песнях типа "Sometimes" и "Spontanverkehr".
Слушая сегодняшний And One, чувствуешь банальную тривиальность, ничего умопомрачительного и сногсшибательного, как это было в свое время. Раньше…
