MANGA
Like most Japanese anime, Saint Seiya was first created as manga (comic) before it was visualized into anime (animation) version. Saint Seiya series was first published in the January 1986 edition of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The comic books were printed by Shueisha publishing--the owner of Shonen Jump--in 28 volumes of original edition (Jump Comics 1986-1991), 15 volumes of hard-cover edition (Aizoban Comics 1995-1997), and 15 volumes of compact paperback edition (Shueisha Bunko 2001). All with exactly the same storyline.
Below are the scanned front cover pictures of the manga books. If you'd like to order them at your local Japanese bookstores, please refer to www.saint-seiya.bravepages.com/shop2.htm for their ISBN codes.
