"SICB AIDS EDUCATION FOR TEENAGERS" Workshops

Since the launch of the SICB AIDS EDUCATION FOR TEENAGERS PROJECT, SICB has made positive changes in the lives of many adolescents through the many workshops conducted by volunteer facilitators.

Apart from conducting the workshops in schools, SICB has also shared the project with other SI Clubs and NGOs with the hope to reach out to more teenagers nationwide.

Subsequently, the SICB AIDS Education For Teenagers workshops were held in Beijing and Inner Mongolia for students from middle schools and undergraduates from universities and medical colleges.

The project was also shared with local organizations and NGOs, namely the Chamber of Trade Commerce, Sisterhoold Teahouse Centre and others. With their strong interests to adopt the project, a facilitators training workshop was conducted in Beijing in 2002 by SICB.

HIV/AIDS and Sex Education Workshops For Parents

Recognising the importance of parental guidance to the young, SICB has extended the project into another level where workshops were conducted for parents on HIV/AIDS and Sex education. Many parents, though concerned of HIV/AIDS issues, are lack of knowledge, skills and techniques needed to deal with their inquisitive children.

The Parents Workshops aimed to provide accurate information and knowledge to parents on how to guide their children on the HIV/AIDS and sex related issues.

  • March 2002, SICB successfully co-organised the First Inter-Varsity AIDS  Conference (IVAC-1) with the undergraduates of Kolej Za’ba, University Malaya.
  • March 2003, SICB again co-organised and co-sponsor the Second Inter-Varsity AIDS Conference (IVAC-2).
  • The project is now fully endorsed by University Malaya and it has committed to hold the conference every year.

               Facilitators Training

Since the launch of the AIDS project, SICB is often handicapped by the constraints of limited trained
and committed facilitators to conduct workshops.

In order to sustain and carry out the project more effectively, SICB has committed to organize
Facilitators Training Workshops to train more people to participate in the HIV/AIDS work.

To date, SICB has organized numerous such training in the hope that the AIDS Project will reach further and create a bigger impact in the country.

              Educational Drama

To add some fun and laughter to the project, we tested our creativity on staging a drama entitled
“Sex Education by Ah Wong” The drama, created and performed by SICB members
and workshop participants, shows how misconception in sex education could lead to disastrous consequences.
