Sidney M. Cohen is one of television's most experienced producers and multi-camera studio directors with nearly 10,000 program episodes to his credit.
As a director, he specializes in studio productions requiring one to nine cameras. Cohen can develop and direct new shows or series and is also available as a fill-in director.
As a producer and/or director, Sidney has worked across Canada, Los Angeles, New York, England, Israel, Poland, France and Spain .
NEWS AND SPORTS:
Sidney Cohen has directed news for CFCF-TV Montreal (8 yrs.), CJOH-TV Ottawa (3 yrs.) and CFTO-TV Toronto (2 yrs.) in addition to many years with the CTV Network. Sidney directed 4 seasons of CBC-TV's MIDDAY, 2 years directing BusinessWorld and 2 seasons for CBC Newsworld.
Sidney directed live coverage of the 1992 summer Olympics from Barcelona delivering CTV's daily afternoon coverage. Over the years he has met and worked with "countless names in the news" and has directed entertainment, royal visits, elections and political conventions. In 1992 he was appointed executive producer of Canada AM and and later produced four more series for CTV.
NETWORK PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
In 1994, Sidney was appointed to the position of Executive Producer, New Program Development at CTV to create new programming for the network. He also was a member of the network executive team preparing specialty channel applications before the CRTC (Canada's FCC) and he helped establish new business opportunities for the organization.
Internet TV Production
Cohen was President and Executive Producer of Virtual Broadcast Corporation, a pioneer internet TV system that produced and distributed original internet programming.

ENTERTAINMENT AND GAME SHOWS:
Cohen's mentors included American TV pioneers Dan Enright, Jack Barry, Roger Muir, Don Reid and Bob Aaron. Utilizing their training, Sidney has produced or directed more than 20 gameshow series or pilots.
He created The Mad Dash, the popular network daytime gameshow which has been licensed and produced abroad. Cohen co-created and directed the primetime entertainment-reality series Thrill of A Lifetime which ran seven years on CTV to large audienceswas reprised in 2002 for international distribution.
He's also directed numerous talk and panel shows.
Sidney commuted weekly to Los Angeles to direct America's first live interactive show Say Powww starring Jack Clark. Sidney produced Alex Trebek's early CBC series, Strategy, and produced and directed TimeChase a new quiz show in association with History Television.
He has developed a number of children and youth shows including a Fred Penner & Raffi special, Game Nation (CTV) and Test Pattern (MuchMusic).
TRAINING & CORPORATE
Sidney teaches non-broadcast corporate executives, television techniques with his TV 101 course, trains CBC News directors and is available to direct infomercials and corporate events.
PORTHOLE TV
Cohen's love of cruising led to the development of Porthole TV featuring ships and destinations produced on location. Based on Porthole magazine.
