Guns

Bereta M92F Handgun: One shoot. Short range. May use the silencer.
Ingramm MAC-11 Machine Gun: semi-automatic machine gun. Shoot continuously. May use silencer. Medium range.
M79 Granade Launcher: Special weapon to launch granades. Cannot use silencer. Medium Range
RPG7V Rocket Launcher: Cannot use silencer. Very powerful, has large range.
Time Bomb: (plastic explosive) It has a timer, like a time bomb. You can use only one at a time.
Mine: You can use only 3 at a time.
Rocket: An advanced weapon controlled by remote control. Once shooted, can be controlled with the cursor keys (or joystick).
To use the weapons during the game, use the F2 key to select the weapon and use F2 again to return to the game.

Objects

Body Armor: The damage is reduced to 50%.
AntiBomb Armor: Protects against explosions.
Flashlight: Use it to see on dark places.
Infrared googles: Very useful to detect alarm's infrared sensors.
Antigas Mask: Very useful to pass throught places with gas bombs.
Mine Detector: As its name says, it's useful to see the enemy mines.
Antenna: You'll be able to use radio even if the enemy cause interferences.
Binoculars: You can see the 8 screens around you, but cannot be used inside buildings.
O2 Suply: You will be able to swim to contiguous screens.
Compass: It's impossible cross the desert without this one.
Antidote: Neutralize the scorpions' poison effect.
Ration: Heal yourself.
Cards: There is 8 cards. Each door on the construction has one card number associated with it.
Uniform: Can be used, in some situations, to confound your enemies.
Box: This is weird. You will become a box and it'll be confound with a box. No enemies will harm you, unless he see you moving. Unfortunatelly, it will not work on all levels.
There is another objects, like cigarretes, but they are not important.
To use objects (and eat), use the function key F3.

Game Tips

During the game, you'll face a lot of difficulties and there is no way to tell you every pass. But this section will try to give you a lot of tips to help you prosper faster in the game.
  • The game is divided in three main scenarios: the three enemy Head Quarters. Between them there is two deserts that we must cross.
  • The magnect cards are fundamental to enter in several rooms and places in the game. You'll have a lot of trouble to get all of them.
  • It's useful, when without the silencer, kill the enemies only with punchs (B button or M key). The silencer is obtained on the second floor of the first head quarter. It's guarded by four guards and you must kill them all to get it.
  • It's wise to rescue all prisioners, once they can give us precious information and, at the same time, make us gain military level and so get more energy, bullets, etc.
  • A little (and good) trick is... When getting ammo or ration on a truck, house, etc, repeat the process until you cannot do it again.
  • A good tip is always call the radio and answer ALL calls. In the beginning, all messages are real, but next to the end, you'll receive some fake messages.
  • When saving the game, try to find always an elevatror. Why? Because when you save, the game only saves the guns and objects you have in the last time you get an elevator.
  • In the up floor of the second elevator, that is a green one, there is a concentric wall and some dogs. In the inner side of it, you'll find the antibomb armor. To get ir, you'll need to punch the walls until you find a fake one, that will sound different. So, put a time bomb and you'll see how this wall will break. Repeat the process until you find the armor. At this same scene, but in the external wall, there is the uniform (for camouflage). On this case, you must punch the walls to find fake ones, but at this time punch the external walls.
  • Enemies

  • In the up floor of the second elevator, you must wear the antibomb armor to pass throught the pressure of the explosion. Going to the left two screens and then going down, you'll find two bridges. Before crossing them, you must use the parachute so you'll not die if you fall. Going to the right, you'll find an enemy helicopter. To destroy it, you must throw 12 granades on its cabin. Once it's destoyed, go up and then to the right e jump using the parachute.
  • To arrive on the first desert, go to the floor just above the subterrain of the second elevator. Go two screens to the left and you'll see four soldiers guarding a door that opens with the card #4. Now you are in the first desert. Go up, avoiding the mines and the tank shoots (use the mine detector here!). To destroy the tank, you'll need use 11 mines bellow its track.
  • To pass the first tank's door, that is guarded by three enemy soldiers, use the enemy militar uniform. You'll have 5 seconds to cross the door. To destroy the machine, launch 6 granades on its cabin.
  • To get the rocket launcher, enter on the room that appears to be empty. Get out of it and use the transceiver to call the frequency 120.48 of the radio. A Spy called Jennifer will answer and will leave the rocket launcher on the room. Go in and get it.
  • There is another time that you'll need to call Jennifer: To open a door that not opens neither with cards nor punchs. On this room it's the compass, a need to cross the second desert.
  • Don't forget to get the O2 Suply. It's in the upper green floor, behind a fake wall. Take care with the traps on the floor that will make you die.
  • When you find the Metal Gear, you must destroy it with time bombs. Put the bombs on its side, following the sequense: Right, Right, Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right.
  • Once the Metal Gear is destroyed, a door will open. When entering, you'll see the BigBoss, that is a betrayer. To kill him, just use the rocket launcher. Do not run following him. He's faster than you. Stay behind a box and shoot several times, hitting the BigBoss. As soon as you kill him, another door will opens, run to it and enter. Go to the LEFT stairs (that is the "right" one ;-) and go up as faster as possible, and if there is enough time, you'll see two atomic bombs. This means the total destrucion of the head quarters Outer Heaven and Metal Gear... Congratulations!

    Q: I just started the game and have no idea what the hell I should do.
    A:
    You have to infiltrate into the Outer Heaven and locate kindnapped nuclear scientist Dr. Pettrovich. Always pay close attention to what other people, especially Big Boss, have to say.

    Q: So that means I should...
    A:
    Try to find Grey Fox first, as Big Boss told you. From your starting scene, advance forward one screen and you'll get another call from Big Boss. Now go up again and go right. There you'll see three trucks with rations, card1 and scope inside. Get all them. Now go back to the screen where you got a call from 'Boss and go right. Get past two soldiers and keep going right. There's a door, which can be opened with card1. Retrieve gas mask inside the room. Keep going like that you'll do fine.

    Q: The elevator is closely guarded by two mean-looking dudes, and I have no ammo.
    A:
    Just wait until those two go away. (don't bother fighting, you'll get killed)

    Q: There's a room with high-voltage floor. How do I cross it?
    A:
    Use remote-controlled missiles to blow up the switch on the wall.

    Q: I found another elevator, but there are too many levels and I don't know where to go.
    A:
    First go to the 1st floor. (just above basement)

    Q: A guy says I have to be caught by the enemy to find Grey Fox.
    A:
    In the 1st floor, Go as far as you can, until you come to a dead end. There you'll be caught by the enemies and confined in a cell right next to Grey Fox.

    Q: In the basement Shoot Gunner attacks me, but I have no weapons.
    A:
    Call 'Boss and ask him.

    Q: How do I beat Shoot Gunner?
    A:
    Use grenade. Hide behind the blocks while he's attacking, and when he goes behind the block approach him. Estimate the time he'll come out from behind the blocks, and give him a couple of pineapples. Repeat that a few times and it's over.

    Q: After escaping the cell, I always get 3rd degree alert. Help me!
    A:
    Get rid of the trans.

    Q: Where are bomb blast suit, uniform and armor?
    A:
    They're all hidden in the basement. Check the walls by punching them. (then use plastic bomb)

    Q: How do I get to the courtyard? (where Dr.Pettrovich's solitary cell is)
    A:
    You need a parachute. It's in the 2nd floor.

    Q: Machine Gun Kid doesn't want me to take his parachute. What do I do?
    A:
    Just hide behind a block and use missiles.

    Q: So how do I use this parachute?
    A:
    Go to the rooftop, (you need the bomb blast suit) and get past shaking bridges. You'll encounter a helicopter. When you defeat it, keep going and you'll see a diving board(?). Equip the parachute and jump off!

    Q: I can't cross the bridges.
    A:
    It could be a very nerve-breaking experience for some. Just relax and let your instint do the job.

    Q: This helicopter-thing give me a hard time.
    A:
    It's one of the most difficult bosses in the whole game. Grenade is the only weapon that's effective against it, I think. I'll give you a cheat - face it straight with about one Solid Snake's character distance away. Now go right a little bit until you don't get hit by the bullets. You're completely safe there.

    Q: There's a tank on my way to building no.2.
    A:
    Make sure you've got enough landmines. (about 12) I guess you could also use plastic bomb, but it's damn hard. When it goes back, lay as many mine as possible on its path. DO NOT face the tank straight. It'll fire the cannon, which will blow your head off nicely. Stay on one side of the tank. When it comes forward, hide behind the wall until all the mines are blown up. Easy!

    Q: How do I beat the bulldozer?
    A:
    Use mines or grenade. When you have nowhere to run, just leave the room and enter it again. Damage inflicted on the 'dozer remains the same even if you do that.

    Q: How do I beat Fire Trooper?
    A:
    Go right up the screen from where you entered the room. There you won't be hit by the flamer. Now approach him slowly until he's inside the grenade's shooting range, and finish him off.

    Q: Dr.Pettro says he won't cooperate unless I rescue his daughter. What an asshole!
    A:
    Ellen is confined in a secret cell. In the basement, go 2 screens South from the fake Dr.Pettrovich's room. (dead end) The wall on left can be broken. Note : you need the flash to get through the secret path! There are numerous pitfalls (traps) along the way, so you'll have to kill Solid Snake many times. But keep trying!!!

    Q: Where's card7?
    A:
    Ask Pettro.

    Q: How do I kill Mr.Arnold?
    A:
    You need a rocket launcher.

    Q: Where is the rocket launcher?
    A:
    From the scene where Mr.Arnold is, go through the door on far right end (with card5). Be careful not to be discovered by the enemy, and enter the room you see directly above you. There's a hostage inside. Rescue him and he'll tell you about a resistance called Jeniffer. When you get out of that room, take out all the enemies in the scene and call her. She'll say that she would arrange a rocket launcher for you. Now open the door on upper right hand corner with card6. You've got the ultimate weapon rocket launcher right there.

    Q: Where is the compass?
    A:
    In the scene where you called Jeniffer, use scope and look up (North). There you'll see another door on upper right corner. Of course, you have to go all the way around past Mr.Arnold to get there. Compass is inside that room, but the door won't open with any cards. You have to call Jennifer again. She'll open it for you. Compass in an essential item, so don't miss it.

    Q: One of the hostages says the ditch will lead me to the building no.3, but it's too long.
    A:
    The ditch will only lead you to a part of the building no.3, where card 8 is. However, to cross the ditch you need an oxygen tank. Oxygen tank is in the 100th basement of the building no.3 itself, so you have to go there via dessert first, and then come back when you have the o-tank.

    Q: Big Boss keeps giving me wrong instructions! What's wrong with him?
    A:
    Well, you'll just have to wait and find out!

    Q: There are seven trucks in front of the building no.3. Which one should I take?
    A:
    As a matter of fact, it's better to just leave all of them alone and get into the building straight away. 4 of those trucks take you back to a distant past, so don't risk it! The fourth truck from left has three ammo packs, but be prepared to fight for it.

    Q: In the building no.3, I've come to a dead end. There's nowhere to go.
    A:
    Always check the walls!

    Q: How do I destroy Metal Gear?
    A:
    Did you listen to Dr.Pettro carefully? The last one (the one he forgot) is R.

    Q: How do I defeat Big Boss?
    A:
    Hey, he's the last boss! Why don't you work it out yourself?

    Q: I've gotta escape this place before it melts down altogether, but I need more time!
    A:
    Just stay cool. (how about a smoke?)
