Before you move around and explore my site, let me give you a brief information about myself. My name is Felipe Vilches, Jr. I am a Waray, born and raised in the island of Maripipi, Biliran, Philippines. I spent my early years in Maripipi, completing my Elementary and High School education in Viga. In 1973, I joined my older siblings in Tacloban, in quest for higher education, and eventually lived there after my college days -- visiting Maripipi for vacation and fiesta celebrations.
I am married to a beautiful Basaynon/Taclobanon and we are blessed with 2 wonderful sons. My family and I immigrated to the U.S. in 1993, residing in Syracuse, New York for 7 years before moving to Chicago, Illinois to work for WMS Gaming Inc., as the company's New Game Test Manager. At WMS, I was in charge of making sure that all video casino products manufactured for the North American market were fully tested and compliant with various jurisdictional regulations.
In September 2005, I applied and was hired by HSBC - North America as Systems Quality Assurance Manager in the Consumer Lending Division. HSBC - North America is one of the top 10 financial services companies in the United States with assets approaching $300 billion. My office base was in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Currently, I am working for Life Fitness as Sr. Manager of Software Quality Engineering. Life Fitness, a Brunswick company (NYSE: BC), is the global leader in designing and manufacturing a full line of reliable, high-quality fitness equipment for commercial and consumer use. Its cardiovascular and strength training products, including the renowned Lifecycle exercise bike, are used in health, fitness and wellness facilities, as well as in homes, worldwide. The company is headquartered near Chicago and distributes its equipment in more than 120 countries. Life Fitness acquired ParaBody in February 1998. The ParaBody brand of products includes a full line of home gym systems, free weight systems and specialized workout stations. My office is based in Franklin Park, Illinois.
My undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering from Divine Word University of Tacloban, Philippines. I went to the University of the Philippines-Diliman for my Master's degree in Engineering Education on an EDPITAF scholarship and to Syracuse University (SU web cam) for my Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering on a USAID scholarship.
