The PowerLeap adapter is a board the size of a processor that has the necessary electrical components which allow your system to have the split voltage needed to run MMX CPU's.  It gives you higher clock multipliers so you can reach higher CPU speeds than your system is capable of.  The picture to the right is the PL-Pro/MMX(SVRM) adapter, which is the electronic board that does all the work.

• You can choose the processor of your choice, limited only by your system and BIOS.  The BIOS may be upgraded, by a BIOS supplier.
• You can put a new processor in the PowerLeap adapter later, whereas with an overdrive processor you have to buy a whole new overdrive processor to upgrade further.
• The PL/54CMMX  and PL/ProMMX give your system the needed split voltage required for MMX processors.
• Gives you higher clock multipliers (2.0X, 2.5X, 3.0X, 3.5X, 4.0X, 4.5X and 5.0X); this is great for the K-6 233 since the PowerLeap will support future K6 which runs at a higher clock multiplier.
• Saves you from having to do a motherboard upgrade, which is not easy, or saves you from having to buy a whole new system.
• Price is competitive or better than similar overdrives from Intel and Evergreen.
• For you overclockers, it still gives you the ability to overclock with clock multiplier.  For example, the PL/ProMMX gives you clock multipliers up to 5.5X.  However, it can be a little tricky getting to the clock multipliers.

The other piece of software is this neat little utility called PowerLeap CPU Control Panel.  This utility will identify the CPU in your system and tell you various things about it (as you can see in the picture to the right).

The about tab gives you information about how to contact PowerLeap and it will even allow you to double click to be connected to their web site.

This has to be the easiest upgrade I have done yet.  The adapter I used was fully assembled.  All that needs to be done is to pull up the lever on the ziff socket and pull out the old processor.  Next, pop in the PowerLeap adapter and close the ziff arm.  It may not look like it is fully seated because the pins are longer than in a normal Pentium processor.  Attach the cable that is included in the kit to one of your power supply lines and then connect the power to the PowerLeap adapter.  Then boot up and watch as your system boots up at the new MHz.
