I have started on a simple render manager for use with POV-Ray (and maybe other software). I am intending to make a simple yet elegant piece of freeware/shareware that will allow people to split renderings between different systems.
People who are interested in testing and/or providing information can send me mail at joncruz@oocities.com
For those who need (or want) to do some rendering now, there is CMASTER for DOS. It is DOS only, and doesn't have a fancy interface, but should work on most networks that DOS can use (including Novell, Win95...).
It's in good progress now. I almost have a limited beta ready.
I am currently just working on the Windows 3.1 version. Hopefully that will end up covering users with DOS, Windows 95 and Windows NT. Later I would like to include Linxu and Unix. That covers most real systems (Hey! just kidding!)
Eventual targets:
I am currently planning on a peer-oriented system with file sharing being the main networking mechanism. I believe that this will allow for running on many different networks without having to have many versions. Also, it can simplify integrating systems running different OS's. I am considering creating a TCP/IP client later to allow for non-shared-file access, but as that is more system specific, it's development is being saved for later.
