Some Good Pinks

Pink Oriental Poppy
For pinks, consider Cobbity Daisy (argerasthemum frutescens), a new hybrid daisy in a pastel pink shade or Pink Marguerite, an old standby. I also like Bridget Bloom (Heucherella tiarelloides), which looks much like coral bells but is pale pink and even dantier. Phlox comes in several shades of pink, as well as lavender and whites. It can be found in ground cover form or in 24" sizes. Pink Oriental poppies are actually more on the peach side, but their deep maroon centers make them blend well with any of the pinks. Pink asiatic lilies also play well in these schemes. Pink roses like Bonita or Cecile Brunner are favorites of mine, as is pink geranium. And we certainly can't forget the many beautiful pink shades of peonies, such as Sara Bernhardt, Doreen, Mischief and Anna Marie (pictures of these are on the Peony Pages.

Pink Lily

Jupiter's BeardGeneric white peonies bloomed next to White and two shades of Pink Jupiter's Beard. Mixed among them are Strawberry Foxglove, Sage, purple Himalayan poppy that has just finished blooming, Liatrus not yet blooming, and Ocean Pink and Starburst Mauve Day Lily. Earlier a few Siberian irises had popped up their heads in this same area.
Jupiter's Beard (Centranthus rubus, zones 6-9) grows about 3' tall, in white, hot pink, and an almost red shade. It is a very carefree flower, and easily self-sows its seeds. In good conditions it can almost look like a bush. In spite of its size, it usually doesn't need staking. Trimming off bloomed heads adds to its flower life, as with all perennials.
