Written by Terry and Rob, this song explores
the inner workings of the band members' minds.
Song Sample
Kickbox originated from an upbeat, dance
music-type riff the lead guitarist, Mike, had come up with. After we added drums, bass,
rhythm guitar, and some preliminary keyboard parts, T sat down on the floor of the garage
and started singing nonsense lyrics of what was going on at practice that day, just to get
a measure of what the vocals should sound like and where they should go. After going over
the lyrics later that night, Rob and Terry liked it so much, they just cleaned it up,
added another verse, and came up with the title.
Kickbox was the quickest produced original Mayday
came up with. The samples were added to the CMP ("cool middle part") during the
recording session.
"Kickbox" does not refer to the sport,
but to being in a box in your mind, kicking around your ideas... |
