I first stepped aboard the Seattle on a cold, icy morning in January of 1989 and would cross her brow one final time on a gray, rainy evening in September of 1992. I remember both of those momentous occasions with stark and vivid clarity as well as many o
the events, times, and friendships falling between them that have touched and impacted my life in so very many ways. Well......enough of the literary hogwash! I moved back to Texas upon being honorably discharged, was soon employed by AT&T Network System
(now having been migrated as a spin-off into the telecommunications culture currently known as Lucent Technologies). I have now been employed by Lucent for 7 years and am a Data Networking Field Services technician operating under their 'Netcare Pofessio
al Services' umbrella, or so they tell me...I think. Hey, whatever. As my old buddy IC3 Stine once said, "Call me what you want to, pal, just don't call me late for supper."

It's hard to remember now, but, I believe it was in November of 1968 I received orders to the SEATTLE upon graduating from Machinists Mate "A" school in Great Lakes. We (the original crew) were attached to the Master At Arms Force in Bremerton, and were on
32 section duty while waiting for the "yardbirds" to turn her over to us.I did a lot of "military funerals" and security watches while living off base and collecting "Per Deium". Finally, we were able to move aboard and have our own "racks" etc. I was pri
ileged enough to be a "Plankowner",but was transfered to the USS WILLIAM C.LAWE (DD-763) in Mayport, FLA. with several other "Snipes" a couple of months after she was commissioned. I have always been especially proud of three things during my "one hitch"
nlistment in the Navy. (1) My purple Heart from "Swift Boats"--Tonkin Gulf. (2) My "Golden Shellback" certificate from an Indian Ocean cruise-USS WILLIAM C.LAWE (DD-763)and (3)My "Plankowners" certificate from the SEATTLE. Whenever she does go out of com
ission,I WILL BE THERE,TO SAY GOOD-BYE--AND THANKS!!!!!!! signed: Richard B.Morris(MM1) U.S.Navy 1968-1971
