ROSE ON MY GRAVE

Torn apart day after day
yet to eyes she doesn't change.
The smile in her eyes stays the same
but her soul is constantly chained.
Undeserving words her hope hath drained
and she thinks it's herself whose to blame.

A friend stop's by just to say "hi"
with a hug and a smile
she says "let's talk awhile."
Conversation lasts hours on end,
heart to heart from friend to friend.
One friend shares untold fears
while the other's soul sheds silent tears;
Her pain is heard by no other ears.

On and on - the secret goes on,
from the twilight of night to the dawn.
Her smile hides her lies
and the pain in eyes that cry.

Harsh words from mother and father,
"I am the parent - You are MY daughter
Do as I say not as I do
I know what's best for you."

But are you not you and I am me
shouldn't I be who I want to be?
But who is me and who are you?
I'm so confused - Oh what to do...

--torment of mind questions her blind--

Why are the answers so hard to find?

She saw him tonight - talk turned to fight,

I am wrong and he is right.
When will this end and your love begin?
You don't even seem a friend.

Her arms at his waist - yet he stands firm;
"I love you" remain words unheard.

When is love real
and joy what I feel?
When will the storm subside
and the sun show my tears dried?

--with that last thought - she died--

Now those who hurt me - their tears fall
and I ignore their lonely calls
Now I am me - my soul set free -
being all I wanted to be.

No more pain or unanswered fears.
No more suffering and endless tears.
She turned toward the light
but awoke to the night;
it would seem it was only a dream.

Now I know how to end the fright
and I know what I must do tonight

* she takes her last breath -
then silence and death*

The morning dew found in her room
a dampened paper written in gloom

I MAY BE GONE
BUT MY SOUL SHALL LIVE ON
HAPPY AND FREE
BEING WHAT I KNOW IS ME
SO LAY THE ROSE ON MY GRAVE
FOR I FOUND A NEW LIFE TODAY
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

As they turned around
do you know what they found
as they looked at the way she was placed?
Her arms were upright,
reaching for light
with a true smile upon her face...
