SAND
KEPT PROMISE
The sun sets low as shadows rise,
and the wind sends chills of a dark demise.
Stars play near the silver moon,
as though night will end too soon.
"Sister's come, sit 'round the leaning palm,
for troubled tides have upset the calm.
I pray thee listen well to me
as I tell a tale to rock the sea,
and sing to sleep troubled minds
as dreams set in weary eyes.
I've seen footprints on the sand of a
man and woman who walked hand in hand.
Footprints the ocean will wash away,
leaving no evidence when dawns the day,
that would expose the tale I tell to you
of sweet surprise and lovers true.
The eve began with a sweet-smelling rose.
He lifted his love from her toes,
and gently brushed a tender kiss
ever so slightly across her lips.
He held her tight, walked by her side,
and whispered of a sweet surprise.
'I found the most secluded place
divine in beauty with a quite grace.
My heart is ready and the time is right.
I have a special surprise tonight.'
Beside the sea, hidden away
the couple descended a secluded cave
with floral bouquets covering the walls
and the echoing music of a waterfall.
Her eyes glistened at the site
of this long-forgotten paradise.
She wrapped her arms around her love
to give him a grateful hug.
'It's breathtaking,' she told him with marveling eyes,
'It's so perfect, I could almost cry!'
He took her hand as he dropped to a knee
and held out a diamond ring.
'I love you more than words can say,
and it only grows stronger every day.'
Tears streaked her porcelain cheeks
as she breathed yes in a sigh.
'I'll spend the rest of my days with you
loving faithfully until I die.'
He took her in his warm embrace
holding her close to his heart.
He felt now, as he always had
that nothing could keep them apart.
Outside the tides were rising,
unknown to the lovers inside,
and mornings light found their promise kept,
in each others arms till they died.
The lovers have never walked on
the beach according to human sight,
yet their footprints adorn the sand
mysteriously every night.
