HOW TO INSTALL :

For both Windows95 & Linux you need Jeditor.zip Note it is approx. 91k in size, and includes editor.jar (The main file), jeditor (for use with the Linux OS), jeditor.reg and jeditor.bat (for use with Windows95), and the help files in HTML format.

Note, JEditor is free, and is being updated regularly, if you like the program, please register so that you can be kept informed of any new releases.

Windows 95 :

Place the file editor.zip into your main java directory, & unzip it. You should now have a new jeditor directory in your java directory.

Next add editor.jar to your classpath in the autoexec.bat file, it should look something like :
SET CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:.;C:\JAVA\BIN\JEDITOR\EDITOR.JAR

Place the jeditor.bat file into a pathed directory eg c:\windows or c:\

You are now ready to start J-Editor. Type jeditor from within a MS-Dos window to test. Or alternatively double click on the jeditor.bat icon.

Options - type the name of a java, html, htm or prj file after jeditor, and that document will be opened up on start up.

If you would like to set J-Editor as the main application to open .prj and .java files, edit the jeditor.reg file to suit your system (instructions are provided in the file itself ) Save the file, and then double click the jeditor.reg file, this will update your system registry to allow J-Editor to open .java & .prj files automatically, by clicking on a file icon. Setting the registry also allows files to open using a full path & filename.

Linux :

Place the file editor.zip into your main java directory, & unzip it. You should now have a new jeditor directory in your java directory.

Edit the classpath line in file called jeditor to point to editor.jar.

Copy the jeditor file to your /usr/bin file.

You are now ready to start J-Editor. Type jeditor from within a X-window to test.

Options - type the name of a java, html, htm or prj file after jeditor, and that document will be opened up on start up.
