At present there are five categories of licenses in India. They are:
Permitted bands of frequencies and modes of operation vary, depending on the type of license. SWL License is "listen only" and RG License is "VHF only". A list of authorised frequency bands, modes of operation and transmitter power generally allowed are listed here.
