About

"It’s a fickle town, a tough town. They getcha, boy. They don’t let you escape with minor scratches and bruises. They put scars on you here."
REGGIE JACKSON

The Silver Nickel is one of many off shoots of the New York Newsgirls' Union created in 1999 by Goldie. When her lodging house idea drew more interest than Lower Manhattan could handle, she created the Midtown Lodging House. This was followed by the Bronx, Queens, Harlem, Brooklyn and Greenwich Village. By fall 1999, the Newsgirls' Union had been created.

Interest was not confined to the newsies, however, though they remained a huge part of the Union. Crap Game Alley and the Brooklyn Bridge Bar were forerunners of the Manhattan Police Department, St. Jude's Hospital, Hardison's Mercer Street Boutique, the Rose Theater, and others. The Silver Nickel is more a less a spin off of one of these, the River Cats Gang. Both of its owners and at least two other characters were created to supply story needs for the River Cats. The characters, however, were not content to be entries on a character index. They wanted a place of their own.

With persuasion - I wanted to be persuaded :o) - I created the Silver Nickel Gambling Hall.
