BREAKING NEWS: SPACEWORLD CANCELLED?!? 5:45 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Dear Jeebus, say it's not true! Unfortunately, it's strongly looking that way. There is a strong rumor going around the Internet that Nintendo will not be holding their annual event in August this year like they always do. Various sources are claiming that Nintendo is beginning to realize how much more global E3 is, and have decided to pull the Nintendo-exclusive event. The only evidence to support any of this is the fact the Nintendo did not even MENTION Spaceworld at E3, which is very odd because every year Nintendo ALWAYS gives some sort of Spaceworld teaser. Two years ago, Nintendo said they would FINALLY be revealing the GameCube. Last year, Nintendo said that they would reveal the newest Mario and Zelda games, as well as explain the GCN-GBA connectivity. This year, NOTHIN'. The reasons for why Nintendo would do this are sketchy. Some say it has to do with the fact that several companies are cutting corners to save money. For instance, Nintendo revealed earlier this morning that they are seeking shareholder approval to buy back 14 million of its own shares(up to $2.01 billion worth), in an attempt to boost management flexibility by holding all or part of the re-purchased shares as treasury stock or to cancel them to boost per-share value. More on the situation as it develops.

Previews Problems 10:34 AM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Apparently the Previews section was still acting up until the time I went to bed last night. So, what I did to fix the problem was split the Previews section into two. Now there are 2 Previews sections, in alphabetical order. One section is for previews of games from A through M, another is for games N through Z. And though for some reason this did fix the problem, I was forced to do the same thing to the Reviews section, as it would look shotty if the Previews section was split up and the Reviews section wasn't. So anyway, I added some screenshots to some of those new previews I made. In fact, I think I'm going to make some more previews today. As for reviews, well, I don't have any money to go out and rent games right now, so no reviews for a while.

It Ends 11:47 AM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Well, E3 2002 is finally over. Actually, it's been over since last Thursday, but it takes a couple of days to soak in and absorb all the announcements Nintendo threw at as since last Tuesday. E3 truly was spectacular this year. SpaceWorld in August will most definitely be even better, since it is Nintendo-only. In fact, E3 2002 was so great, I might even feel like writing an editorial about it, if I ever get around to writing any of those other editorials I planned that is. In a completely unrelated topic, I added a bunch of new Previews as well as some new Codes. Which reminds me, the Previews section is acting up a bit, and won't load. Just keep refreshing it and it eventually loads, or you can just open a game preview manually if you know the file name. I'm gonna try and get at least a couple of those Editorials done today, too, if I can.

It Begins 3:03 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
E3 is OFFICIALLY underway now. It's only been going on for 2 days now, and Nintendo has already released some earth-shattering news. For one, plot details for Zelda GC have been revealed: Link travels across land and sea to search for his kindapped SISTER, Zelda GC is also delayed in the U.S. until February next year; the Matrix-based games are due out 2003; although not confirmed, the chances of Nintendo cutting the price of software is VERY high as Sony has already with the PS2; Acclaim announced the release date for Turok: Evolution: 09-01-02(aka "Turok Bloody Sunday"); Nintendo reveals that Doshin the Giant is coming stateside; Rare is apparently NOT going multiplatform for at LEAST another year; the GTA franchise is EXCLUSIVE to PS2 until October 2004; Satoru Iwata revaled the Game Eye, a device using the GCN-GBA connection to take a picture of your face and put it into a GameCube title; and finally the GameCube's library is expected to have more than 150 titles before the years end. And THAT'S basically E3 so far in a nutshell. That's great and all, but I still wanna know what Zelda GC's official game name will be though...

E3 Cometh 11:00 AM CST by: Trent Dickerson
It's finally here. E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, possibly the greatest week of all gamers lives every year...is here. That's right, folks, E3 starts on Tuesday. Press conferences start today, but don't expect to hear anything important until "the big show" starts. While E3 is by far one of the greatest times to be a gamer, it's one of the worst times to be a video game journalist such as myself, as you must constantly keep up with the news and important announcements left and right. And though I am actually not at E3 this year(maybe next year), I still have access to the premium video games sites such as IGN.com, as they will offer E3 coverage 24-7. And while I am excited about the fact that this is the last week of school for us, I won't be able to pay much attention to finals as I will be too busy worrying about when Zelda GC's release date is, how far Metroid Prime is from being done, and which decade Starfox Adventures will ACTUALLY be released in.

Price Cut Wars 7:11 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Wow, a lot has happened in the video game indsutry over the past 3 days. First, Sony announces a $100 price drop in the PS2, making it $199, as well as $10 drop in software for the PS2. Then, Nintendo announced a $5 price drop in the upcoming wireless WaveBird controller for GameCube, which is set for a $35.95 price tag, as well as a $10 drop in regular GameCube controllers, set at $24.95. Then today, Microsoft announced a $100 price drop in their console in order to keep up with Sony and Nintendo, bring the Xbox down to $199. Rumor now has it that Nintendo will drop the GameCube's price $50, bringing it down to $150. It is highly unlikely that Nintendo will drop the GameCube's price $100, as a $99 console would interfere with the GameBoy Advance, where Nintendo reigns supreme, unchallenged. All this awesome news, and E3's not even here yet!

Time to Paint The Town Red...WITH BLOOD 6:27 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Today I was officially inaugurated as mayor of Scaredshitlessville, also known as Raccoon City. Yes, that's right. I FINALLY bought Resident Evil for GameCube today. YAY! Me and my friend Chris Guild drove up to the mall an went in Electronics Boutique. We both went for the same reason: to buy Resident Evil. He however, was there to buy a GameCube as well, since he didn't have one yet. He claimed Resident Evil was really the only reason he wanted one, and I know of at least 3 other people who are buying(or already bought) a GameCube just for this game. That's how loyal of a following Capcom has for its RE series. Well, I better get back to my game, I have a lot of area I want to cover today.

Wario, 1080, and Zelda Goodness 9:06 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
A couple of fans managed to get their hands on a Nintendo flyer for E3 2002 BEFORE it was released. On it were new screens of previously announced and unannounced games. One of the unannounced games was "Wario World", apparently. Other announced games included Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Legend of Zelda, and 1080o: White Storm, and Mario Party 4. Speaking of Zelda, Nintendo released a new screenshot of Link's face from Legend of Zelda. The new Link has subtlely different eyebrows, and the lips no longer look so girly. This new cel-shaded Link means business. Also, Spider-Man and Resident Evil came out very recently, and I should have a review for both sometime by the middle of the month. No, I don't have either one yet, but I plan on buying Resident Evil tomorrow though. Chris Lawley(remember him?) bought it on Wednesday, the day it launched, and said he hasn't gotten very far into the game due to it's "scary factor". Pfhh, I'll be the judge of THAT.

Bring Back Earthbound! 7:37 PM CST by: Trent Dickerson
Starmen.net started an Earthbound petition a little over a month ago and have over 16,000 signatures at the moment. They still need more, so if you haven't signed already and want Earthbound(Mother 3) on the Gamecube, click here. Earthbound(Mother 2) for SNES was an awesome game and was the only RPG of its kind without medieval areas, swords, magical spells, and such. Instead, the game took place in rural areas and big cities; and instead of a sword, you used a baseball bat; and instead of magical spells, you used your psychic power to evoke fire and ice. Please be sure to sign the petition. The day HAL Laboratory announces Earthbound for GameCube(and ports it to the US), will be the greatest day ever.
