FADE IN:
1 EXT. SHOPPING MALL -- MORNING
A BOY 1 of about 8 is leaning against the wall next to a hobbyhorse, sucking on a lollipop. He is wearing a small cowboy hat. After the sound of inserting coin into the coin slot, the hobbyhorse starts to move slowly.

FADE OUT:

2 EXT. SHOPPING MALL -- DIFFERENT MORNING
An old, beat-up truck screeches to a halt and the VENDING MAN, in his mid thirties, steps out, carrying a metal lockbox. He starts to walk over toward the hobbyhorse. A SMALL GIRL, about 8, is standing next to it, kicking the hobbyhorse.
                                  GIRL
                               (pouting)
                           It's not working?
The Vending Man inserts a coin into the machine, but the horse doesn't budge. He starts to tap on the coin slot lightly. Gradually, the tapping escalates to pounding. The Girl keeps eyes on the Vending Man with curiosity. Something falls in the change slot. The Vending Man examines the coin carefully. An odd-looking fake coin, almost the size of a quarter. He throws suspicious glances around him at the girl and passersby.
                               VENDING MAN
                               (frustrated)
                     Damn it, not again? who the hell?
He refunds the Girl then collects the coin deposits from the machine.
CUT TO:

3 INT. VENDING MAN?S CAR -- CONTINUOUS
The Vending Man returns to his truck. He eyes the people around the hobbyhorse suspiciously - AN ASIAN BROTHER AND SISTER, A FATHER AND SON. He picks up his box of cigarettes, but realizes that it's empty.
CUT TO:

4 INT. LIQUOR STORE -- MORNING
A female CLERK, 25, is busy on the telephone, arguing with her boyfriend about breaking up. A tip box sits prominently on the counter in front of her.
                                 CLERK
                              (chewing gum)
                  But, we've been together for a whole year?
The Vending Man walks in, flicking the foreign coin in his hand. He picks up a pack of cigarettes. After paying for it, he looks over at the Clerk, who seems preoccupied with the phone. He throws the fake coin into the tip box. The Vending Man leaves with a smirk. Still on the phone, the Clerk quickly waves her hand in gratitude.
CUT TO:

5 INT. VENDING MAN?S CAR -- CONTINUOUS
Vending Man returns to his truck and takes his seat,comfortably. An odd looking cadillac passes his truck with loud noise. He eyes strangely.
CUT TO:

6 INT. LIQUOR STORE -- CONTINUOUS
The Clerk is still arguing on the phone.
                                 CLERK
                            Have a nice life!
The Clerk slams the phone down. She begins to tap lightly on the tip box. Suddenly, the door SLAMS open and masked ROBBER 1 and ROBBER 2 rush in, holding something under their jacket and pointing it at the Clerk.
                                 ROBBER 2
                       C'mon, the money? the money?
The Clerk freezes behind the counter. The two start to make demands and the Clerk begins to fill up a brown paper bag with money from the register. As the Robbers start to leave, one of them grabs the tip box. As if by reflex, the Clerk reaches for it simultaneously. With their hands on the tip box, the two exchange a funny look.
CUT TO:

7 EXT. LIQUOR STORE -- CONTINUOUS
GUNSHOT.
The masked Robbers run out. Robber 2 is holding a brown paper bag and Robber 1, the tip box. They leaves the place. The Clerk rushes out with a shotgun looking around. She runs after the thieves.
CUT TO:

8 EXT. SHOPPING MALL -- DAY
SOUND OF RUNNING FOOTSTEPS. The masked Robber 1 and Robber 2 are running from the Clerk. They pass in front of the Vending Man?s truck. The Vending Man eyes strangely.
