Starters Sean's Post-postmodern Nonsense Starters include a variety of small bites, soups, salads. The French call it hors dourves and they are Dim Sum to the Southern Chinese. In many parts of Asia, the start of the meal consists mainly of cold, pickled dishes and meats (this is akin to the Italian way of eating smoked sausages with olives raw before the spaghetti.) Many American restaurants have a wide selection of soup and salads as appetizers, though in Asia soup tends to be served last, at the end of the meal. The logic in my development follows a fusion cliché. Sometimes I use one ingredient that I'm familiar with and mix it with another. Copyright Sean Luo, 2005, sluox@yahoo.com
