NEW MEMBERS

Two new PAL members joining us this week:

First up a PAL karter from France, William Jonas, who has set some very fast times and enters the PAL Players' List at Elite A and #40!

Secondly, we have Daniel Gooch from the U.K who has recently driven all times and will get some much faster ones soon. He enters at #78 on the PAL Players' List and Expert F overall standard.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATES

It has been DP1 war this week with the slightly new strategy used at the end of the lap as two karters on PAL battle it out. Sami Çetin played a lot over a few days to lower his times and made some nice cuts on important courses. He was able to secure the DP1 5-lap PAL WR this week to 1'15"79!!! A small improvement on MC2 1-lap WR also followed with 0'15"06 and later a new PAL lap WR for KB2 at 0'12"12! His SR score reached the -4.000 mark! Michael Jongerius also had some great times for DP1, including a sub 1'16" time, but his greatest moment came with a fast CI1 5-lap WR of 0'59"50!! He cut 5 points off his SR with all his PRs together! On NTSC, Jamie White also karted DP1 to improve the time, he has a lot of potential left still, and is sure to go back for more. So far he has a new WR of 1'14"73!! Simon Laflamme had another shot at DP2 this week and lowered his 1-lap slightly, no SR change. Jérôme Gava also returned from the French Tournament and produced a new PAL WR on VL1 with 0'55"60!!

Roland Pristauz has had a fantastic week of PRing! He has re-done his full game pak of PRs with almost all times in the Elites, some were even up to the King standard! One thing that is certain is that we may have a new Champion of Austria pretty soon. Gerard Roodhorst continued to PR to climb further ahead of Braun. He cut some big time off VL2, which was his weaker course plus he was very successful with KB1. A small improvement also on Rainbow Road. Gerard cut 20 points off his SR score moving him further ahead through the Legend D standard.

Franck Mazières set some new PRs since the tournament, some King and Legend times. His SR equalled that of Edwin Peeters, but he didn't win the matchup. But maybe next week he may pass him and gain another place on the Players' List. Franck has also put up his own proof page, go check it out, there is the link in the SMK Proof Page. Bertrand Voireuchon had some help with KB1 to lower his times more, and was pleased with the results as he cut his KB1 lap considerably! A nice improvement on KB2 lap also.

Richard O'Neill had some trouble getting many PRs this week, but we are sure to see some great improvements soon. He did however do a good job on CI2 5-lap and 1-lap that helped him to climb to #31 on the PAL Players' List. Raphael Braun also improved KB1 with the help of Nicolas and cut off 5 points! However he was unable to keep up to Gerard's PRs, so he remains in the same position. But there is next week.... we will see!

GOING TO UNIVERSITY : IMPORTANT NOTICE

As most of you have heard by now, I am moving away to University this Sunday (15th September). I will be taking an old PC with me there to use for work and updates. I do not know when the next update will be, but I am hoping to get everything working as soon as possible, it will take me a little while to get settled in and get things organised. There may not be an update next week on 19th September just so you know. But hopefully it won't go too long without updates. It is also possible with my new timetable at University that the updates may not be weekly on Thursdays, but weekly on a different day. Whatever happens you will find out on the next update. Meanwhile keep on karting and Ill see you all soon!

CORRECTIONS TO SOME TIMES

There was some confusion over Nathan Stinson's recent PRs as we (including him) were all not sure if they were his actual PRs. He had written them on paper amongst MKSC times and there may be a mix up. Until the problem is solved, his previous times have been put back so he is back to Legend F again. Some other corrections to the WR pages have been made regarding the drivers used to make the WRs.

PICTURE ADDED TO PHOTO GALLERY

Raphael Braun has sent in his picture and it has been added to the SMK photo gallery! Keep those pics coming in for those of you who havent sent any yet and would like to.

NEW MEMBER

We have a new NTSC member this week, Gabriel Laflamme from Canada who was recruited by his brother, the Canadian SMK Champion, Simon Laflamme. Gabriel uses Mario to drive his times and has only had first tries mainly so far, but is sure to improve soon. He stands at #70 in the World on NTSC and has an overall standard of Advanced D.

UPDATES THIS WEEK

It has been a hectic week with many participants. Sami Çetin was unable to make PRs or any PAL WRs due to University preparations. However, Dutch Champion Michael Jongerius was on fire with a lot of new PAL WRs!! He went to get back DP1 and hit a 5-lap WR and a tie for the lap with 1'15"67 and 0'14"91*!! KB2 lap was able to go that bit further, and after some time he got his 0'12"04 PAL WR! He has hit a fast lap on GV3 and even snatched the 5-lap WR to 1'15"93!! It didn't end there as he challenged the WRs of Archibald Lefevre on CI2; he hit a new 5-lap at 1'12"25 and a new fastlap of 0'14"23* which was a tie!! Jamie White also had a good week after taking the DP1 times down as far as he could with the slightly new strat. 1'13"s are looking solid now for DP1 as his new NTSC WRs stand at 1'13"68 and 0'14"59!! Simon Laflamme too had a good try at those times and came in very close to WRs, so he may even go for those next week, however he was more interested for now in BC3 1-lap for which he improved the 1-lap WR to 0'17"51!! Yves Daniel was the only other NTSC participant but he made it to Legend F with his new PRs!

It was also a great week for Roland Pristauz as his 37 new PRs climbed him up to #45 on the PAL Players' List with an Elite C standard. He passed Peter Elsässer in the process making him the new SMK Time Trial Champion of Austria!! Well done Roland! In the U.K, Matthew McCarthy set out to catch up to Richard and other karters in the U.K as quickly as possible. He made many new records in many of the cups, including some big cuts off VL2. His overall standard is now Elite A and he is #40 in the World on PAL! Richard O'Neill set some more PRs than last week but smaller cuts. He didn't gain another rank but his overall standard moved up to King E! Gerard Roodhorst seems to be following behind Jongerius well now with his latest BC lap PRs looking sharp. He also hit some stuff for KB1 and Rainbow Road that cut his SR closer towards reaching Legend C!

The French competition really heated up with many players sending lots of great times! Julien Holmière played a lot this week and PRed a lot, which was good for his standard. He has been hitting many King times and some in the Legends, so we know where he is headed. He climbed to #9 in France, #24 in the World on PAL and has an overall standard at King C!! William Jonas, the French karter who joined us last week has already hit a lot of new records with Elite and Kings times, even with Legend E and GOD on his favourite KB1!! He reached King F this week and #34 on the PAL Players' List. Bertrand Voireuchon had a good shot at the KBs, making it to the 1'05"s on KB2 along with some other great times on GV2. He almost made it to King A, but missed it by a point so he remains at King B, but did pass Chabanis for #7 in France and some others to become #17 in the World on PAL. Definitely another player with Legend potential! Franck Mazières played a very close run to the GOD time on GV2 which he was very happy with, also a pair of great CI2 times. He finished up on Rainbow with a nice new PR. He broke his way past former World Champion Edwin Peeters to gain the #11 position in the World on PAL! French Champion, Jérôme Gava improved on KB1 only this week getting 1 point off his SR.

SUPER MARIO KART UPDATED NEWS!

Sami Çetin's update, 29th September 2002

UNIVERSITY OF KENT AT CANTERBURY : UPDATES CONTINUE

It has been an interesting time so far at Uni, and some of you may wonder why there is an update on a Sunday. I had to change the day of update simply because i have the most free time on the weekend. I had a big crisis with the accomodation as they had to move me from place to place, but that is sorted now. I still do not have network connection in my room, but soon I will receive the cable and will then know whether it works and can update from there (instead of the library/computer room where I am now!) or if there is a problem with my network settings/network driver. By the time this is sorted out i will probably be back in London for updates back at home. I will try to keep up with weekly updates here, but i will feel better to update from my room rather than carrying zip filed disks with me to some other place after working on my PC.

For these reasons there may not be an update next Sunday if I do not yet have my cable connection. I will see what I can do, but as long as i do receive the cable, updates are back to normal but most likely on Sundays from now on. Some of you may have send in records on Saturday, but unfortumately I had no time to check mail, so the times that are in are up till Friday 27th September.

VALIDATED KARTERS

Ben Miller has received my (Sami Çetin's) tape, full of MK64 and SMK times, however he has to find time to make the video files. They will go up sometime soon hopefully.

Franck Mazières has also received a tape from Michael Jongerius validating him by video now aswell as the meeting with Michael Liem! All his times are cool and we will get to see some video files from there soon too!

NEW MEMBERS

We have a new member for NTSC since the last update. His name is Doug Warren and he is from Chicago in the U.S.A. He is a fast karter at King G overall standard with an NTSC World Ranking of #30!

A new PAL karter also joined us from France! Julien Holmiere's brother, Sébastien Holmiere enters PAL SMK at a high standard of King F and #37 on the PAL Players' List!

UPDATES SO FAR

It has been a busy two weeks and some new WRs have been set. Michael Jongerius did the main job over on PAL with an unbeatable lap of 0'14"87 on DP1, a 5-lap WR on GV3 with 1'15"67 and lastly a new WR for CI2 of 1'11"97 (on tape)!!! We are looking forward to seeing the video files soon for sure because these are some great new WRs! Jamie White played a little for NTSC to answer to Simon Laflamme's recent BC3 1-lap. Jamie found it really tough but managed to break into a tie with Laflamme's time there of 0'17"51*.

Matthew McCarthy had a great week setting 39 new PRs!! These included a GOD time for VL1 lap and many of his weaker standards destroyed. He fought his way into the Kings and ended up at King E even a place ahead of Richard O'Neill giving Matthew a PAL World Ranking of #30 and a U.K ranking of #4!! Gerard Roodhorst took 7 points down with 3 new PRs covering a DP, a BC and a VL course. His VL1 lap is getting closer to a sub 11 second lap now. He also almost made it to Legend C overall. Daniel Gooch, who recently joined SMK from the U.K has sent his next lot of new PRs in. He still has plently of potential in many races, and has driven some very good times so far in courses like MC1. We will expect to see him join the top U.K karters in the future.

Julien Holmiere also made a long list of new PRs and climbed pretty high up in the PAL Players list! Many of his times have turned from Kings to Legends and he is definitely worrying the lower Legend karters now. He climbed to King A overall and has a PAL ranking of #14. He has also made it to #6 in France! Franck Mazières improved only 4 records but cut off a lot of time on the VL1 lap. His BC1 is also looking fast. He broke through to Legend F overall and made it to the top 10 in World Ranking!! Nicolas Clementy has had a great week in his return to SMK. His VL1 improvements look solid and he managed to do DP1 lap with Sami and Michael's method. Nicolas Clementy has passed Jérôme Gava to become #1 in France again and also #3 in the World on PAL!

Cedric Leutwyler returned to SMK for some good cuts off KB1 and other courses. He made it to King F on overall standard and #35 on the PAL Players' List. William Jonas is still improving his favourite KB1 taking it to Legend D this week. He made a decent set of fastlap PRs to go with that and an MC1 time nearly in the Kings. He climbed a few positions to #33 on PAL. Archibald Lefevre improved KB2 quite nicely with the help of Raphael Braun. He is now getting closer to Pierre L'Hoëst. Bertrand Voireuchon also improved KB2 5-lap, and cut a bit off VL1 lap. He has reached King A overall.

Darcy White has returned to NTSC SMK! He only made two PRs so far but we are hoping to see more records soon. The 2 were on DP3 where he cut 3 points off. Lastly, Gabriel Laflamme improved a selection of his times and climbed to Advanced C overall!
