aims of the El Salvador Philatelic Society are to bring together the collectors of the world and to strengthen the relations of collectors of El Salvador with members of all other countries."
FUNDATION
El Salvador Philatelic Society was founded in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America on January 5th, 1940 under initiative of Enrique Patiņo, Dr. J. Antonio Pinto Lima and Ciro Rusconi.
The first meeting was attended for 16 enthusiastic philatelists and Mr. Patiņo was elected the first President of the new philatelic club. Assembly adopted the name SOCIEDAD FILATELICA DE EL SALVADOR.
EL SALVADOR FILATELICO
The official organ of the club is "El Salvador Filatelico" (El Salvador Philatelic). It is a quaterly journal that first number was published on March 1941.
At this time, El Salvador Filatelico has not been published since January 1992. Club is planning to issue a new number of our journal at the end of this year.
50th ANNIVERSARY
On January 1990, our club was celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Among the different cultural activities, the Salvadorian Post Office issued 2 stamps and 1 souvenirs sheet commemorated our 50th year of foundation.
OUR LOCAL ACTIVITIES
Now, the philatelic society develops some activities:
Auctions . We celebrate at least 3 auctions during the year. With this activity members have the opportunity to buy some rare stamps, covers, etc.
Annual Stampshows . Every year we celebrate the National Philatelic Exhibition, EXFILNA (Exposicion Filatelica Nacional) or a Stampshow with the participation of some members. The principal goal is to promote the philately and add some new members.
Weekly Meeting. In order to increase and diffuse the philately in El Salvador, every Saturday at 3:00 pm (local time) members attend philatelic meetings at Fundacion Maria Escalon de Nunez in San Salvador.
Salvadorian Philatelist Day. In El Salvador, the philatelic society celebrates every January 5th the Salvadorian Philatelist Day with activities such meeting, dinners, etc.
