COGITO - The Society's Journal

COGITO, the Philosophical Journal of the Socratic Society, the Russellian Society (USYD) and the Platonic Society (Macquarie University) is produced by students and is one of the main activities of the Society. The first journal was published in 1966 and can be found in the UNSW Library under S105/19. Later editions are also available at the UNSW Library or by contacting the Socratic Society.

COGITO is generally comprised of articles, essays and papers submitted by students of all levels. Sometimes, an academic may contribute an article to the Journal.

The 2008 Edition

The editors are now calling for submissions for COGITO and will accept articles written by students of all levels of university study on any philosophical topic. Submissions are due 31st July 2008.

Any interested UNSW students should deliver their submissions to the Socratic Society by email: thesocraticsociety@gmail.com

Submissions to the Journal should meet these basic conditions:

  1. Be an original work by a student at any level of university study
  2. On a philosophical topic or of philosophical interest
  3. Between 2000-6500 words in length
  4. Submitted typed on paper or preferably as an email file attachment
  5. And having good spelling and punctuation.

The editors will also reply to a suggested topic or a summary of an article not yet written.
